Impressive school vs. impressive scholarship

My son was accepted to quite a few good schools, and the decision is now between Vassar and St. Lawrence. He loves St. Lawrence; he has not yet visited Vassar, but thinks he will like it because the student life there sounds similar to St. Lawrence.
I’m agonizing over the choice.

The situation, in a nutshell:

 1. Vassar is the superior school academically; they do not give merit aid
 2. St. Lawrence’s merit aid will cut the total cost in half

The problem, in a nutshell:

 1. My son plans to go to grad or law school right after college, and I’m worried that these schools would favor Vassar grads and he might therefore be limiting his future options by going to St. Lawrence.
 2. The obvious solution for me is to look up the grad- and law-school acceptance rates for each school, and compare them. I can’t seem to find that information online, however.

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction - a lot of you must have faced a similar dilemma, even if the names of the schools were different.

Thanks
