Improve My Future Boarding School Applications

I’m a current 7th grader with interest in boarding school for 9th year, but in 6th grade and a portion of this year I was struggling with a couple of personal issues following the pandemic. My grades faltered, and I only managed to pick myself up recently. Moreover, my extracurriculars, with the lack of resources, are not very strong, so I worry about my applications.

I have a couple of interest schools, such as Cranbrook Schools and Mercersburg, along with Phillip’s Andover, but I have a stumping lack of knowledge on their application preferences, if that makes sense. One thing I’ll note is that I will likely request financial aid.

Boarding school has always felt like a beacon of hope for me considering my recent recovery, and I feel that the prospect of advancing myself forwards through one of my target schools is one of the main reasons I’ve managed to sort myself out. Any advice on how to improve my stats or information on the schools I look towards would be greatly appreciated.

Rough stats:
Highly capable english, science, history, math (3 year jump, currently enrolled in geometry)
Average grade is probably a B+ this semester, A- last, and C+ throughout 6th grade.

Math club, robotics, girls’ tennis team manager, all 1 year and starting violin this year. In robotics our team placed 4th overall and 3rd in the first half. I also participated in MathCounts (regional round) and got an unremarkable score.

Outside of school, I study Bulgarian and Japanese along with online math and science courses to advance ahead of my classes (unsure if these count towards apps) and do various volunteering jobs for my community.

Feel free to ask for more information.

It sounds like you have a lot going on. Why do you want to go to BS? It can be a very stressful place for those who aren’t ready.

Also, Mburg and Andover are extremely different (don’t know much about Cranbrook). If you like Mburg, you probably wouldn’t like Andover and vice versa.

I might just have come across biased sources of information regarding the nature of those schools, so it’s definitely necessary I look further into them, you’re right.

As for why boarding school over another type, I explained earlier that it was a major motivation for me to better myself in a couple of ways, but it’s also the experience and energy. Outside of school specifics, the independence required at boarding school is very appealing to me to emotionally mature and prepare for my future endeavors, and the extracurriculars offered at my choice schools do support this. Applications are also becoming increasingly competitive, so support from experienced individuals will additionally help me secure a stabler future.

It’s true that I’m undereducated on there topic, hence why I’m seeking information here and other sources. On that note, if you do have any insight on things you think will suit me better, I’m more than appreciative.
