@AviSaxena33 Not really. They said high SAT scores aren’t the golden ticket to getting in, and the rest of my credentials are average or below average. 'Specially the GPA. My high school’s system for calculating that is weird, so I don’t really know where it’ll end up under a different system.
guys, i have a question. since i dont have any hopes of getting in as an 8th grader, i have to put my best effort into getting in next year. But i’m torn between these two high schools. so basically one of them is a charter school, low in diversity (mostly african Americans), relatively new, have like 4 clubs, have 500 students, and its an “alternative” to the horrible high schools in my area. the other high school is a private school, i have a good chance of getting in with a scholarship, and it’s a good school with a good rep. the problem is, imsa looks if u “take advantage of every resource in your hs” and at the private school, some ppl were already taking bio H as an 8th grade while i’m just taking it next year. and i guess there’s more competition. soooooo does going to the charter school (which is the inferior school between the two) give me any advantage since imsa looks at your high school rep and all? or should i just risk it and go to the better private school which will give me a lesser impression to imsa? HELP ME.
@vniatge Do not risk it. Nothing is guaranteed so it’s not worth it.
dude. @vniatge just go to the private high school, because in case you don’t make it in next year to IMSA then, you always have that school to fall back on. And DONT GIVE UP, you have no idea what the applicant pool will be like this year. Honestly, just apply. If you don’t make it- its not the end of the world. If you do make it then… YAY! Wait, does you’re scince course in 8th grade count for IMSA’s science requirements? Or are you doing it outside of school?
Go to the private school. There’s a spot on the application where you can mention past schools, so you can use that to explain the situation
Most colleges and most likely IMSA like to see people taking challenging courses and going to a private school will help your chances much more. Also, since you applied this year with strong credentials, they will probably notice so I believe that you should go to the private HS, but you should make it into IMSA.
To be completely honest, let’s be real here. IMSA only says that they look at what level of classes you are in because they want to make sure if you have the opportunity, you are taking advantage of those honor classes. As “prospective” IMSA students, they expect any of us with the opportunity to already have those honor and AP classes. It’s not really an app booster as such unless you are compared to the very little to none of the applicant pool that have the opportunity to take a class such as AP huge as a freshman and they choose to take a regular leveled class.
thanks everybody. and @priyaluvsbooks yeah my science 8th grade course counts for IMSA’s science requirement. and @AviSaxena33 I’m confused about your answer. Should i go to the private school or the charter one?
@vniatge Sorry, which ever one is better. With IMSA, nobody is really guaranteed so there is no point taking a huge risk in order to slightly boost your chances of getting in whereas you don’t even truly know how much if they do take the school in the account which I’m sure they do, but again, nobody knows how much that impacts ones application.
oh thank you. and you speak the truth. do you know if the essay questions were the same as last year or do they change it every year?
@vniatge Not sure if they are exactly the same or they pick randomly out of a list of some in which some are given again, but I have heard of people having the same essays 8th and 9th grade.
okay
i had the same questions last year and this year @vniatge
You guys wanna know how bad phs is? Somebody used their school provided email to send a picture of a naked dude’s wide open anus and penis to the whole student body…
XD that’s disgusting…
Imsa save me
@AviSaxena33 PHS, Palatine HS? Private HS?
I know all of you are either freshman or 8th grade, but for those who went to IMSA, is AP Econ an easy class? I am planning to take AP Gov anyway with all honors, but I have a spot for an elective and I am kinda interested into Econ. I also wanted to take 2 or more APs Sophmore year and there aren’t any others that I am interested in or able to do.
@kidfood palatine
@kidfood Have you already taken apush? They only offer ap huge here as a freshman and then most take apush sophomore than ap gov either junior or senior year.
@kidfood Dunno about your school, but at mine it’s considered 3rd-ish hardest of the social studies classes. Mostly because of the teacher, but still.
