IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

Got finals results back. My GPA should be 3.87 under the weird A- counts against you, middle school didn’t have semester grades, formula my school uses

does anybody know if the app essays have to be under 250 or 500 words? WIll the admission committee still consider them? Mine are longer than that and don’t want to shorten them otherwise I will lode quality. btw they’re harddd >.<

@yka101‌ I reeeeaaaally recommend you shorten them. Mine were over as well. I cut out big chunks.

@AviSaxena33‌ Our school only has APUSH for Junior year and its either AP Gov or a standard GenCon class for a quarter. I am already taking one required, useless class in the summer and Drivers Ed and I am leaving for vacation for about a month. So I thought it would be wise to save a waste of a quarter and semester just to fill classes and take AP Gov

@yka101 imagine this, you have about 600-700 applicants, each submitting 4 essays. So, the admissions committee will be reading about 2400-2800 essays in about a month. They don’t want details, something short and sweet that will blow them away.

@yka101‌ I mean, sort of like what kidfood said, they made the word restriction most likely because of the amount of essays they have to read and not only read but of course analyze so yeah, Honestly, I wouldn’t even dare go 1 under or over the max and min limits since it’s an app to IMSA

@AviSaxena33‌ preach it.

Did you guys see phs and fremd hs on the news about the hacker?

alrighttt guess I’m gonna go shorten them(: thanks guys

this wait is troubling! Do any of you know when IMSA will get back to us with our admission letters? March?
:slight_smile:

@yka101 May, I think. 3 month wait. Yay…

I made a clock for you guys, this is a good idea of when they will send them out, not an exact date. http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20150512T00&p0=788&msg=IMSA+2015

@aminorspark‌ yeesh, I’m gonna be dead after waiting for three months. eeeeeek… @kidfood yay! another way to cope with 3 painfully long three months

are the teacher recommendations part of the application that’s due sunday or is it art of the supplemental application?

Hm. I’ve been reading a copy of imsa’s admissions policy, and I’m not certain SATs factor into whether one is “qualified for consideration”. They certainly do for “qualifying for admission”, but the policy on whether or not you’re considered is vague at best. It mentions teacher reccs and grades specifically, but also “other information on the application”. I care a about this because if they don’t look at the SATs the is no chance I’m gonna get in :anguished:

@yka101‌ Teacher reccs are supplemental.

@aminorspark‌ Those phrases are used interchangeably

@AviSaxena33‌ Nope. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=D3NVKyBEMe6ggSCuYS4Dw&url=https://www.imsa.edu/sites/default/files/upload/admissions_policy_ja.pdf&ved=0CB0QFjAA&usg=AFQjCNFLBLh_t2OlC_aRUiuaC5hNBoBvtw&sig2=qQjBpj14PNB-T6H6HRgV_g
Sorry for the long link. It seems our applications are reviewed twice. Once to be considered and once to be admitted. https://www.imsa.edu/admissions/howtoapply/admissionstimeline also mentions both a review committee and a selection committee. I’d think that the two were the same, but the context suggests the difference is being drawn for a reason.

So basically, what we’ve learned is that I have more free time than I know what to do with.

@aminorspark‌ From looking at that document, it seems that the RCE score is most important for admittance, GPA is 2nd, and the SAT score is last in importance. So those essays and teacher recommendations are REALLY important.

@kidfood‌ Aren’t GPA SAT, essays, etc part of your RCE score? Er nvm I don’t think I can delete this comment so disregard it.
