Well crud. Two of my essays were awesome, one was meh, and the one about an innovative solution… I have no idea.
Don’t let IMSA control you though. I’m still preparing for sophomore year at PHS.
Well yeah… I’ve been signing up for Sophmore classes as well. I’m finally allowed to take a decent comp sci class
idk… my essays are really good- cuz i showed them to all my teachers and some friends at IMSA and a tecaher at IMSA as well- the Chemistry teacher? He’s my friends dad. My GPA is a 3.934 which i something I’m mad about (I got 1 B ) and my SAT scores are somewhat awesome (700-700). My reccomendations will probably be pretty good. And extracurriculars are diverse yet show my “interest” for math and science. So…Idk, i’m pretty confident. I don’t know if I wanna go to IMSA if I make it in tho. We’ll see…
@priyaluvsbooks You have that holistic application that they are looking for. Not one part of your application is lopsided. If you don’t get in then none of us have a chance in my opinion. Also, you were privileged enough to have connections to the academy and you applied in 8th grade and got very far in the process.
@priyaluvsbooks There is no doubt that you will make it in, you have every quality that IMSA is looking for. I’m 100% sure that I won’t make it in, but it doesn’t hurt to apply. Good luck to everyone else and hopefully we can see each other at IMSA. If not, make sure you make IMSA regret not accepting you.
okay…guys, all of us hahve diverse applications. And honestly, it doesn’t matter if you have a low SAT score, as long as your Reccomendations, Extracurriculars, GPA and Essays are amazing. <- those are all things we have control of, and we’ve tried our best in all of them. So, honestly- we all have a good chance. There was this Indian girl who applied last year. Her SAT was in the low 600’s and her essays weren’t amazing either. The only reason she made it in was because she had amzing reccomendations and eextracurricular activities. As well as a 4.0 GPA. And for all of the 8th graders out there. Trust me. 9th grade has been one of the best years of my life. You make friends that will stay with you throughout ur hs career- whether or not u go to IMSA. So… don’t stress out if you don’t make it in. You always have next year- something most of us don’t have. And personally- 9th grade is of crucial importance to hs. Don’t miss it. You’ll regret it.
This is a cool blog. I just never post on it. I am an 8th grader. @priyaluvsbooks who would you recommend to review your letter. Of course this is for my next year app. Just wondering because you have a very solid app. And I really want to get in.
@YoloSwagMaster What do you mean by “review your letter”? Like reccomendations? Or essays? If essays, then I would suggest your english teacher, and any connections at IMSA to review your essays.
@YoloSwagMaster Not just any english teacher though. It should also be someone who is “Excited” or “hyped” to review your essays. You don’t want someone who will nonchalantly review your stuff. Like my English teacher specifically being his first time being asked to review IMSA stuff, he was really excited about this and gave me great advice and helped me review it 3-4 times to the brim.
Hey guys, I’m new to this forum as well and have a question about teacher recommendations.
My current second semester chemistry teacher knows very little about my academic performance and has so far only seen a few tests that I’m afraid don’t entirely paint an accurate picture of who I am as a science student. Last semester, though, I had a different teacher who knows more about me than my grades (which aren’t bad- last semester I had a 97 in the class) and also recommended me for a couple of extracurriculars. Can I get a recommendation from the second teacher or must I use my current teacher?
@dimsumnoodles Use the other teacher. The whole point is to have a teacher who knows you and can provide output on what you can do. IMSA will understand that you used your other teacher for obvious reasons.
@kidfood Thanks. Also, now that the deadline has passed, can we talk more about our essays? Specifically the innovation topic. Two of my essays, actually, went into detail about my passion for urban planning/architecture (#4 was about an mobile urban planning app)
and I was just wondering what kind of ideas other people on the forum might have had.
@priyaluvsbooks thanks! yes I did mean my essays. How did you ask a person from the IMSA staff?
@dimsumnoodles my 4th essay was about the progression of stem cell research and other means of developing a cure to fatal chronic diseases. ( I had no idea, I am just an 8th grader. ) my other essays just went into my passion for cardiology, hematology, and high level mathematics. I hope that helped
@AviSaxena33 I will make sure of that. Thanks!
@YoloSwagMaster I hope you are talking about teacher recommendations because the application date has passed. @AviSaxena33 was talking about essays but it could be applied to recommendations.
@YoloSwagMaster I knew them. My friends dad is the physics teach at imsa- and he’s on the admissions team. He offered to review my essays and also recommended a number of extracurricars I should join.
My 4th essay was about Easy Snap Power Lines (nothing really complicated- but really beneficial at the same time) a completely innovative idea.
@theeedog I am talking about next year. Sorry. Didn’t make that clear
@priyaluvsbooks you are very lucky to have that resource!
@YoloSwagMaster Thanx dude. XD. I actually went over for dinner one night, and his father was like give me ur essays and application, I’ll review them for you. I’m really grateful. He helped me with parts of my application that are now sure to astound admissions. But, honestly, just look around. In fact just ask any IMSA student, they’ll be happy to help you, whether they know you or not, cuz they’ve gone through the same process. I just asked random people who go (Went) to IMSA to look over my essays. It helped extremely, cuz they don’t know you so they don’t care about telling u that ur essays therrible or if its even worse.
My invention was a device that could interact with your brain so your thoughts can be easily displayed. Translating a thought onto paper or words is very difficult for some people, but this interaction will make it easy to transmit what people are thinking to others.
