@yka101 i have a sibling at imsa, and i know the first semester of soph year was rough for her- a lot of kids at imsa weren’t as challenged at their old schools, so the sudden change in difficulty is weird for them. however, by the end of first semester, she figured out her own system that works for her. i think that’s how it is for everyone. however, she DOES sleep for 12+ hours every time she comes home. i think everyone could use a little more sleep at imsa, but it’s not entirely unmanageable. weekends help out a lot.
The amount of homework is manageable, but IMSA students are terrible at managing time. Usually the procrastination goes on until the night before something is due and then they do it all then. Everyone seems to think that work goes before sleep
@jxuwyrm Roughly how many hours of homework per night?
Is the SIR Discover program a hassle?
Uhhh, I would say that there’s a lot of homework! On average there’s around 3-ish hours a night. And I don’t really know anything about the SIR program, I haven’t done it yet.
I know this is kinda personal but… how were your graedes last semester? @jxuwyrm
@jxuwyrm Umm, I had about that much homework or more last semester at my high school including studying. Should I be worried?
you guys probably already know this, but my sister told me that you shouldn’t feel entitled to straight a’s at imsa. in her class, a lot of kids were used to not studying/working too hard and getting straight a’s.
the harder courses and rigor of imsa mean that even if you usually didn’t have to study, you do now. if we get accepted (hopefully!) we need to work very hard to maintain grades that meet our own standards. and yeah, time management is a BIG thing
definitely something i’d have to work on.
Yeah me too. Procrastination is a huge part of my schedule XD
If you come to IMSA expecting straight A’s, you’ll be disappointed. If you come to IMSA hoping for mediocre grades, you’ll get them. The key is to try your best and accept what you get. I ended up getting all B’s last semester. It happened and there’s nothing to do about it except learn to manage time better and put more effort into things.
So many ifs but I’m still not getting in … Lol
@AviSaxena33 If anything, I will be the one not getting in, you ALL have very strong applications and I am just dust in the wind. You guys are far superior than me, all I have is the passion.
Haha I find this funny, I will definitely not get in my SAT scores are too weak. I know essays are more important but it seems like everyone here will have strong essay. I only have a 680 Math and 540 CR.
hey guys, lets just hope we ALL make it in! positivity can only bring good things, and it’s better to just try to put out positive energy. as long as we all hope for the best, whatever is meant to happen will happen.
@yeldarb1 Yeah that is the right mentality.
guys… chill. We submitted our apps. We have no way to control the teach. reccs. Honestly, just relax. I mean, what needs to happen will happen…
@priyaluvsbooks well ya can’t blame anyone for being on edge
lets just think good thoughts
@yeldarb1 I know, trust me if you saw me at home and school you’d be astonished. I start to shake when my friends mention IMSA XD But yeah, I wish we could’ve submitted our apps on March 1rst, It makes the waiting time seem so much shorter
How many of you told your friends you were applying? I applied last year, told my friends, and spent the waiting time being told repeatedly how I should stay in school with them. This year, I didn’t tell them. But then, no one I know goes to IMSA, is applying, or even likes math and science.
@aminorspark I told a few friends last year who I wasn’t very close with, but I knew they had a interest in science and math. One of them already knew and was applying, and the others couldn’t afford it. The one student who did apply didn’t make it in last year, but he said that he just needed doing what he is doing and he will have a chance next year.
