IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

I told a lot of my friends. But a lot of them are applying to IMSA so…idk. But yeah the ones who arent have been telling us continuously how i shouldn’t leave. But IDK. I may go may not

for me, i only told one or two close friends, i feel like imsa is a personal choice and i don’t want a lot of people in my business, asking a ton of questions about it, constantly talking about it, etc.

I’ve talked to quite a few of my friends about IMSA, and they generally aren’t opposed to the idea of me applying.
However, many of my friends who are applying as well don’t seem very enthusiastic about the prospects- they cite their friends, homesickness, and workload as the main doubts they have about attending if accepted. I don’t think there’s a question of whether I’ll attend or not if I’m accepted simply because, as a recent transplant, I don’t have the same attachment that they do to the school and the city where I currently live.

I don’t know. I’ve lived here my whole life besides 2 months in India. I have a huge emotional attachment to my neighborhood and friends and as I think about getting a job and having to move away, it’s hard to digest that. However, on the other hand, I am willing to do whatever it takes to succeed and if that is having to move away and sort of start a new life at IMSA, I’ll do it. Come to think of it, it’s not much of a sacrifice cause the things you will lose you will regain as you build rep and friends at IMSA. Also, it’s not like you won’t see your old friends anymore. If I go to IMSA, my best friends will still always be my best friends.

I think what a lot of people forget is that on the weekends, you basically have to go back home I think. I think if you are farther away like in the south, it is not mandatory, but everyone in this forum is within an hour away. Also, for me, I am already losing some of my friends since people change and move on. It is also difficult for me to make a strong connection with new friends so I am fine with going to IMSA. Everyone at IMSA will be completely open to friendships since no one knows each other and there are more interests. Some of my friends now do not have the same interests as I do so leaving doesn’t effect me a whole lot.

I feel like the biggest thing for me is finding like-minded people which is what IMSA will provide.

tbh, if I get into IMSA, then I’m definately gonna go. I mean, its a huge oppurtunity! Have u guys heard about the IN2 that’s openning up next year 2016 in Jan? The Innovation Hub?! Im so excited!!!
But I’m definately gonna miss my friends. @kidfood It’s not mandatory to go home on weekends for any students. However the academy does provide long weekends, in which we have no school on Thursday or Friday- in which we must go home.

Question: Who do you think has the highest chance of getting in from this forum?

@priyaluvsbooks‌ We haven’t shared our whole applications. In my case I have just shared my SAT score and I am fine with just that. But from what I have seen, you have the highest chance.

@theeedog meh, i mean, I got a 3.93 GPA cuz I got a B in honors alg 2/trig this year- that’s prob gonna trip me up in the applications process

but all of us have really good chances. I mean, our RCE scores and reccs are prob gonna be pretty high

@priyaluvsbooks‌ One B won’t kill you. I think that you are right on the fact that our RCE scores will be high. Why does your school group Alg 2 and Trig together?

If you are from the Naperville Aurora area, you will be competing with 4.0 high SAT kids. They can only take so many from that area.

No need to stress though. Just continue what you are doing and wait.

Just curious, does anyone know whether they separate by county or town or neither? I just want to know how they decide when it is too many from one area.

They want the school to be somewhat representative of the state. Not sure how they do it though. That is why someone with lower stats downstate can get in over someone with better stats from Chicagoland area. It is about the opportunities available to you and what you did with it. That is why you are pretty much competing with people from your school and city/town.

@nickster12 do you think im gonna be really disadvantaged by my 3.93 GPA?

@priyaluvsbooks‌ Generally, one B should’t be a big deal at all, especially if you have other stuff that covers it. Now since you’re from the Aurora area I believe, you have a harder pool of competition.

Do they still calculate GPA based on just math science and English? The ones I know who came from that area all had 4.0

Just curious, do any of you currently attend a predominantly Asian school? I imagine IMSA would be a culture shock to some people (And, yes, I know this is a stretch of a question given that we live in the Midwest).
