IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

@priyaluvsbooks‌ Not really if you think about it, there are a lot of indians who apply every year.

All sophomores get into lit ex 1 for fall and lit ex 2 for spring. There are no placements in English. Writing scores don’t matter. Math scores matter more than Reading - read their admission policies. A about the ethnicities - in a way you are competing against those with the same ethnicities. They take ethnicities into account when forming the accepted class. So if there is a lot of the same ethnicities from the same area, kids with the highest SAT, GPA get in first. Just like in college, underrepresented minorities have a leg up in the admission. That is why, if you are from a competitive region, you have to fight for the last SAT point, a straight A is almost a requirement. There are tons of over 700 SATs and 4.0 from competitive areas.

I should have said SAT, GPA, RCE…essays and Extracurriculars matter after all.

In other news, the budget was cut by 8%. Wondering how it will affect the quality.

@nickster12‌ Actually, about the SAT Writing scores, it was mentioned in the IMSA Online Informational Meeting about how they will be factored in after admissions for placements. So, priyaluvsbooks is indeed correct.

As nickster12 said, all Sophomores are placed into LE 1 for fall semester and LE 2 spring semester. There are no other placements so I’m not sure why they say that about the writing scores.

Not sure how the budget cuts are going to affect IMSA yet, but I imagine the student fees will be going up.

Are the budget cuts gonna affect the IN2 and the SIR program?

@nickster12 When you say competitive areas are we talking Aurora and Naperville strictly or are there other competitive towns that you know of?

Peoria is competitive but not as much as 203 and 204 districts. With Peoria though, parents are less inclined to send their kids so that mutes the competition somewhat. There was a big push to get Chicago kids awhile back but they have great magnet schools in Chicago so I don’t know if the IMSA people have conceded. Definitely if you are from outside Chicagoland or from underrepresented communities, you don’t have to have the best stats. Especially with the budget cuts they want to spread the wealth around so there are more touch points with state legislators to help advocate for IMSA ( this is just a conjecture btw but I think it makes sense).

Also most of what I write here are based on what I experienced while I was there. I also have an older sibling who is an alum and one coming up. Things might have changed so I am not discounting what you guys are saying. I totally bombed the writing portion since I knew it didn’t matter.

@nickster12 I totally bombed the writing portion too. I just had to do better on CR.

I got a 590 on my writing

Lol nobody cares about writing. During the SAT I had such a huge headache during the writing portion cause I forgot to bring a snack, etc. I just nearly went on pick whatever looks good mode on the last 5 questions.

I relaxed and saved my energy on writing sections

I just didn’t practice writing at all.

I promise you that the writing scores don’t actually matter.

Anyone else watching the IHSA Speech State awards ceremony?

Yeah, one of my friends was competing at State. Sadly, I didn’t go myself. I’ll try next year though.

yeah! Vinesh Khannan right? He got 3rd in Impromptu! I watched him compete at Sectionals!!

Weird how a kid at my school got 1st in Impromptu. @priyaluvsbooks‌ @jxuwyrm‌
