IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

@sawesome17 No I got a 680 Math and a 550 CR. I think location matters more than race, don’t worry about it though. If your app is good enough I’m sure that won’t be a deal breaker.

@sawesome17 @theeedog I’m going to die from asphyxiation because I’m hyperventilating that letters are almost here. i already have ice cream to celebrate if do and binge eat if I don’t haha

cool thx

What do you guys think would be the worst part of getting rejected possibly? For me I think I’d be able to get over it quickly because I’d be a more standout student at Palatine all around, but I think my parents would be disappointed for a while.

(For those who haven’t seen me on the forum yet, hey! I’m a current IMSA sophomore.)

Guys, don’t worry too much about getting rejected. Obviously it’s good to be excited for letters, but don’t beat yourselves up too much about it if you don’t make it in. There are a ton of applicants this year; not being one of the 200 chosen doesn’t make you stupid, or bad at school.

And if you’re as smart as you are, doing great things in the world shouldn’t be too difficult, no matter what high school or college you go to.

@cannolisz There are a bunch of different closed Facebook pages that the different residence halls and wings have, and multiple all-campus ones as well. I’m not telling you all not to connect right now on social media; but if you do get accepted you’ll all be sent a bunch of friend and group requests from current students as soon as housing details for next year come out. Fair warning.

@SquadLeaderZ Do you know a rough estimate of the amount of applicants this year? Just curious in comparison to previous years.

@theeedog I’ve heard a bunch of numbers being thrown around, and I have no idea what’s accurate. There have been people saying 1,000 kids applied and the counselors are working double overtime, and there have been people saying only 150 applied and IMSA is going around begging for more people. I personally doubt both.

I don’t want to give you an exact number because I don’t know myself. As for a rough estimate… probably around the same amount as last year (which I remember as being around 800, but that could be wrong). Maybe a bit more? I really have no idea. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry for the lack of accuracy. My point was that getting in is really difficult, and not being able to do so isn’t a sign of stupidity.

@AviSaxena33 Funny, my parents don’t fully want me to go. I mean, they think it’s a great opportunity and stuff, but they’re kinda nervous about the whole boarding aspect.

Worst part of being rejected would be having more science and math classes intended to simply stuff knowledge in your head rather than make you think, teachers with minimal interest in their subject, etc. But then, my current school actually has a better program than imsa when it comes to the arts, and getting good grades is probably easier here, so I’ll be happy either way.

Does anyone here do FTC robotics? Just wondering.

yeah my brother says his grades aren’t nearly as good at IMSA as they were back home
the thing is, my parents really want me to go but like, i’m not too sure i want to leave my friends behind? i mean, the academics are great and all but it’s a big commitment leaving home :frowning:

I attended an online informational meeting and they said the number was about 650. do you have any information regarding the timeframe of when the letters will be sent out? @SquadLeaderZ

@ptvnicorn 650 might be more accurate, my memory isn’t the best :-S

As for the letters, I don’t know any more than you guys do. They don’t tell us anything until the letters are actually sent out.

@swaggy333 and @squadLeaderZ - do you think it is still very difficult to get straight A’s? Based on my sibling’s experience and my experience I thought it was getting easier. There were more straight A’s in my class than his.

@nickster12 I mean, it really depends on the student. I know kids who are scraping by in all of their classes but are presidents of clubs, and I know kids who hermit and ace every class. I’m a B student myself. I have no idea how it compares to previous years, though.

^

@SquadLeaderZ Just curious what were your SAT scores?

Mid 700s for reading, high 600s for the rest.

are you guys 100% positive that current imsa students are notified when letters are mailed? @SquadLeaderZ @nickster12

@ptvnicorn
I’m 100% sure that we are notified when (or shortly after) letters are sent out.
I’ve heard that we also get the list of names of accepted applicants as well, but I’m not sure about that.

Housing comes out May 8th, so we definitely know by then.

Current students are informally informed that letters went out (mostly from word of mouth). It was really not a big secret. So in the past, letters were normally sent out on the 15th and by the 16th the Aurora and Naperville kids receive their letters. A week or so after, a list of accepted students is printed (with the graduating seniors on the other side of the printout). Then current students start creeping facebook sending various friend requests to accepted students. you can get a copy of the list when you take the placement tests normally at the end of May. I think this year everything is accelerated.

@SquadLeaderZ - venture a guess on how many are still straight A’s?

@nickster12 I honestly have no idea.
