Lol is it considered cheating if you have a person help you write your essays. I have this tutor who basically is just tutoring me to make me get into IMSA lol. She prepped me on SAT, and she and I will write the essays together. Is this cheating though? 100% of her students got into IMSA so I am pretty excited lol xD
Is it possible if you could send me those ladies details
@priyaluvsbooks Ugh I hate to pester you so much, but I has other questions. So, you went to Metea. I go to Metea! GO mustangs xD. But seriously I was wondering how many people you know applied to IMSA. And, how many people you know made it from your school. And like, how were there GPAs :P. Im guessing you were in the PA program in middle school, and I am too. Do you know anyone who did Pre-Calc freshman year and made IMSA?
Also, can I count the grades I got in Algebra 2/Trig into my total GPA. This will be major boost cause like gpa is so bad.
@floridagators100 You can’t count those grades…sorry :(. Last year around 15-18 kids applied to IMSA from Metea and about 4 were accepted 2 were waitlisted (from which 1 got in) and the rest weren’t accepted. All of the accepted ones were girls and the waitlisted one who got in was a guy. So 4 girls and 1 guy. I’m pretty sure everyone’s GPA was above a 3.9 and everyone did Hon. Alg 2 and Trig. And all the kids who got in had an SAT score above 1340.
@priyaluvsbooks Yeah but like wouldn’t a 3.8 with honors pre-calc be as good as 3.9 with Honors Alg 2/Trig? Now i am truly pissing my pants lol. 4 accepted!!!. Basically like 26% of the people who applied got accepted. Now I am truly scared
@rattybatty Uh, like what information do you need?
This is truly a good read for people applying to IMSA: http://www.auditor.illinois.gov/audit-reports/performance-special-multi/performance-audits/fy99-imsa-pgm-mgmt-digest.htm
So, basically there is a upper half of the admitted class who got in because they had the highest composite score of the three areas IMSA looks at (GPA, SAT, RCE rating). The lower half were admitted because of demographics. So basically you can have terrible scores, but if you live in the middleofnowhere, illinois you have a good chance. But, if you live in a place like Aurora/Naperville (Me) you just gotta hope on your scores. I am working furiously to make my RCE rating amazing for iMSA.
How does IMSA grade an RCE score. Also, is there any way to take Pre-Cal at Nequa or Metea as a 9th grade without taking Algebra II/Trig and COD and taking the Algebra II/Trig final exams.
RCE score is scaled between 20-80 i believe. The admissions officer grades you on awards, ecs, essays, and teacher reccomdations. Also, you can take algebra 2 trig over the summer at metea or neuqua. I would of done that but I was going to India during summer. And, that class is all week 4 hours, while mine is just 3 hours a week.
@rattybatty Are you applying to IMSA this year as well?
Thanks Florida for the advice. Also, I might apply next year. Also, I heard that you cannot take summer courses as a incoming Freshman into Nequa or Metea.
@rattybatty May I ask what school you go to? Also, you may be right there. My friend who takes Pre calc with me actually took geometry in 7th grade summer and then algebra 2/trig in 8th grade :P. And well i just took geometry and algebra 2/trig at the same time. So sadly you may not be able to take Pre-Calc freshman year
Nov SAT results came in! I went up to an 680 on my writing and a 670 in my reading but my math dropped to a 660 sigh I think I’m going to take the January one just to be safe because this is my highest composite score and I don’t want this trashy math score to be what they judge me on.
@floridagators100 that pdf you linked is helpful but anyone reading keep in mind it was released in 1999 so things might have changed.
@red42413 Well you meet the average accepted score for math and the above average accepted score for Cr, so don’t fret that much.
Yeah @red42413, my math score is fine but how did you get your CR to that
lol my friend just got 800 math 750 cr. Welp there goes my IMSA admissions cause he goes to metea xD
@floridagators100 Yeah but still, I really want to push it up. Plus, don’t worry! I’m sure that your application will get you in! SAT isn’t everything.
@YoloSwagMaster I actually have no clue. I just read a lot in my free time so I guess that and pure luck.
Lol yeahhhh… like I have an above average accepted SAT score but a below average accepted GPA. But there are people in my school with above average accepted SAT score and above average accepted GPA score. I think that my RCE score will be a huge impact though. I have good essays, and probably good teacher recommendations. Although, are awards and extra curriculars that important for IMSA RCE score?
