Don’t worry about demographics and race. Despite the fact that IMSA likes to accept people who apply from far away, more people make it from the naperville/aurora area than many of the other places combined. While there were cuts this year that isn’t going to make them change their admissions policy. The first half of the kids (about 100) accepted are based purely on your SAT’s, GPA’s, Essays and Teacher Reccs. They don’t even look at your demographics or race. For the second half of the kids, they base it on SAT’s GPA’s, Essays, Teacher Reccs, Demographics AND race. This is why around half of IMSA is Asian/Indian. They tend to get into the first half of the cuts. So worry about being at the top. Don’t worry about demographics/nationality.
@Qpint22 I’m like 100% sure that Lit counts as an English class.
They still accept Asians after that 100 right. Because I don’t want to worry about having to be the top 100 out of 600 applicants. @priyaluvsbooks
Also how does IMSA identify the wait list? Is the wait list like the 40 people outside the top 100. Is it based on demographics and race?
@YoloSwagMaster from what I’ve heard, most of the Asians that get in are in that top 100. The top 100 consists of mainly Asians, Indians and the 8th grade kids. The bottom half consists of the underprivileged, African Americans, Hispanics, AND the people who live far away/ or are in the minority range. @floridagators100 Then…the waitlist consists of the kids who almost made the top 100 but demographic and racial standards wise were not able to make it into the second half. That’s why you’ll see that the waitlist is very much comprised of Asians, Indians and White people.
Good to know. Thanks @priyaluvsbooks

like 15 people from my school are applying so a lot of competition
First of all I love your name. @brownmathguyyay second of all your stats are a lot like mine. Your awards are exceptional. I have some of those but not all. I think you have a really good shot of getting in especially getting 1st place nationally in math kangaroo. What math class are you in?
And science?
Guys, could you rate my chances. 8th grade, living in middle of nowhere, but will be in Naperville in 9th grade. Awards; State Science Fair Silver, District honored for science fair, TSA Tech Day first place. Activities: STEM Club, Science Fair, Junior Beta Club, and I volunteered. GPA: 3.91. SAT scores: Math:620 Reading:610. 9th grade classes: Honors English, Honors Biology, and Honors Algebra II, and I take Honors Geometry for high school credit. Something unique about me is that I was 1 of 5 students that helped change the math curriculum. Teacher Recs: Very Good
@rattybatty I would just say you really need to pull up those SAT scores. They are a lot harsher on 8th graders than they are 9th graders because they need to be certain that you can do the coursework.
Red I agree with you, but I am applying in 9th grade and currently this quarter I have straight A’s so that will increase my gpa, but besides that could you rate my chances, when I am in 9th grade. My SAT’s then will be much higher probably in the 710s for both math and reading because I am studying SAT and the first test I took I did not study for.
@rattybatty Ohhh! I thought you were applying as an 8th grader, so sorry. With 710s, you should be pretty great ^-^
IMSA applications come out tomorrow!!! Super Excited
@YoloSwagMaster lol thx man. Im in honors Bio and Trig/Calculus A. im a freshie btw.
@rattybatty Yo, you have a good chance on making it in 9th grade. I just need to caution you. Moving from middle of nowhere to Naperville is a huge step, and lots of people’s GPA’s sink for a brief period during the move. Also, out of curiosity, what high school will you be going to :P. Also your in Naperville man so they expect 1400(math+reading) total score if you don’t get the 4.0. Although, I have seen people below 4.0 and below 1400 make it from Naperville.
@brownnmathguyyay Tell me about it… Im coming from Metea, where we have about 15 people as well lol
@floridagators100 I agree that it is a huge step, but I think that I will have a avantage over most Naperville applicants next year because I changed my districts math curriculum by meeting the Superintendent. Which I think no Naperville applicant has done. Yeah I know 1400 minimum to have a shot at IMSA if you are in Naperville. If I move there then my school will be either Nequa, Metea, or Wabonsie
Applications come out today! So pumped
I hope they don’t postpone it, again.
