Imsa applicant class of 2019

Same, I’m kinda worried because they aren’t open yet

This isn’t good. If they postpone it again. We have just over a month to finish everything.

I’m kind of freaking out over here. I really hope they don’t postpone it but my mom started talking about IMSA budget cuts and how broke Illinois is and that’s got me even more worried.

They updated and just changed it to early December. Fingers crossed they don’t postpone it again.

Have any of you guys started your essays yet? I have and I hope they are good enough.

Heey could you guys rate my chances I am a ninth grade from Peoria, I have straight A’s, I am in advanced everything and i do a lot of extra curricular stuff. I applied last year but didn’t get in. I also haven’t taken my SAT yet thankss
P.S im also super worried about this due date :-SS

@YoloSwagMaster I have started mine. I have the very first draft done and I have to start making better paragraphs and refining it a lot. This due date is kind of frustrating but, hopefully it will be out soon.

What if the application doesn’t come out this year due to budget cuts !!!. This is truly very scary.

When I talked to the admissions officers this year they didn’t mention anything. We were talking about when I apply this year so… @floridagators100

The application is coming out December 11 in case you guys have not heard

Ok. Good to know @Qpint22

To anyone taking the SAT tomorrow,Good Luck!

Yo… I know how IMSA takes an A- as an A. But, I was wondering what a B+ is? Like I have only gotten 3 Bs in my lifetime, but then I got like 4 B+'s. Do these B+'s count as 3.33 or legit 3… If it is legit 3 so long IMSA xD

Hey guys, I’m a junior currently at IMSA (class of 2017). I’ve kept up with the 2018 and the 2019 post and decided to give my two cents.
First, misconceptions. Alot of people here are saying “you’ll for sure get in” “great sat scores you’re guarnteed” This is not true. IMSA isn’t looking for someone who did everything and got good grades. They’re looking for someone to succeed. And it might not be you. The reason we have a wait list is because people decided it’s not for them. (And yes there is an order) This is one of the toughest descions students here have to make, and it’s hard to see friends go. The fact of the matter is, over 20% of the class won’t make it to graduation. We start with 250+ students and a class of less then 200 graduates.
Another thing commonly discussed: schmen. First off, it’s short for freshman because you’re as old as some of our siblings. It’s weird. In my class we had a 13 year old start with us, she’s still here but she’s not as mature and everyone knows it. It’s the same with the 13 year old in class of 2018. You have to be mature to be accepted, and if you do anything weird it’s blamed on being a schmen.
Now, on to the part I’m sure you’re all actually interested in. How I got in. I applied as a ninth grader for the first and only time. I’m a white female from district 202, nothing crazy. I did speech team, band, scholastic bowl, math team, and chess team freshman year, but only track eighth grade. I got a B+ in algebra 2 eighth grade year. My SAT scores were 620 math and 590 CR and writing. My roomie got about the same.
My roommate on the other hand got B’s and C’s before IMSA, went to a private school, and played soccer.
It doesn’t matter what you do. Prove you’re ready for the challenege, and that you can handle the changes IMSA places.
Because the reality of IMSA is not as nice as the tours make it sound, I know, I’m a student ambassador. I wish someone had told me the blunt honesty about IMSA, and if you want to know, message me. Or if you want to know about SIR or Excel or any other thing I gotchu. Sorry for this rambly post I’m procrastinating on all the stuff I have to do.
Good luck with your apps,
tparkman@imsa.edu

@tparkman This is getting confusing because different people are telling me different things about admissions. Like, SAT scores really matter but now you say not as much.

Another question: After experiencing IMSA do you regret going and not just succeeding at your high school?

@floridagators100 I’m thinking that if the B+ is like an 89.5 and up, it’ll count as an A? I have my fingers crossed on that too b/c my math grade after finals is probably going to drop to an 89.7ish

If I had stayed at my old school, I would have had better grades and more time for activities. But I wouldn’t have known I want to go premed, or meet the people I did. At times I do regret it, and I probably would have been better off not going at all.
Different people are always going to tell you different things. IMSA is a different experience for everyone.
@YoloSwagMaster

@red42413 If only we had a detailed way of finding out our IMSA gpa.

@tparkman Wow, thanks for this info!

I would also greatly appreciate it if you could send me your essays. I don’t plan to steal anything but I want to see how it was exactly.
