Imsa applicant class of 2019

@javascript I changed my profile picture  So hopefully all of you will recognize me!! I’m really excited to meet all of you

Just finished my Invitationals SciO meet today… got two medals! Finally have something to put for science awards on my IMSA app.

@priyaluvsbooks Thank you, I will try to find you there tomorrow…if I will get to Aurora in time after my work… I accompany church choir on piano tomorrow morning, can not let them down… Unfortunately, can not reveal my photo yet…Since I have a very little chance to get it as an 8th grader… I feel like sharing photo would be embarrassing to me… :"> X_X

@PlanarStuff Congratulation! How you guys get into all this invitationals and competitions? I keep asking my math/science teachers about any competition I can participate and they do not know anything about anything… I am like in a Darkness here… :frowning:

So I just sit home alone and program…and do science things on my own :-B

@priyaluvsbooks I saw you at IMSA Preview Day! Did anyone else meet her?

@Programmer42 Yup! I saw you too  I met a few others but I don’t think they actually have commented on this post. But maybe…

I was not able to manage to get to IMSA in time… :frowning: Did not have a chance to talk to @Priyaluvsbooks… :((

@priyaluvsbooks I think I saw you but I wasn’t sure, it would be really awkward if I started talking to some random person like I knew them from something. Anyways, IMSA pre-view day was pretty cool. I wasn’t aware of the financial crisis that IMSA is in. My parents and I were talking to Dr. Cores and he said they owe 1M just from Sodexo which is crazy. It’s making me rethink IMSA.

Hi this is really late, I just found this website a few days ago and Ive been sorta lurking for a while. I was wondering if you guys could judge my IMSA application. I’m an Asian freshman from the Chicago suburbs. I took the SATs in November and got a 670 CR/580 Math (bad, I know)/600 Writing. I retook the SATs this January but I still don’t know what my score is. I’ve gotten straight A’s so my unweighted GPA is a 4.0. I don’t have many STEM EC’s because my high school doesn’t offer many. I’m on my schools math team but that’s it. I also code outside of school so I included that in my application. As for STEM awards, I only have 2 local math team awards (terrible, I know). For my other EC’s I’ve run track/cross country since 6th grade, I’m class president, and I’ve played trombone in band since 5th grade. For awards I won a 1st place national band award in 8th grade but that’s basically it. As for teacher recs, I think they’re pretty good because my teachers seem to like me. I really hope I get in but a lot of you guys have amazing applications and mine is just kinda meh.

@YoloSwagMaster This is interesting to know… The whole state of Illinois broke… so IMSA is affected too…I suppose… However, they will let you graduate if they will admit you. Right?

@dobbyisfree I am not an expert to comment on your chances, somebody here will do it better than me, Just have a question: what is national band award in 8th grade? I am in all kinds of bands myself but never heard of this award before…

Whoops my bad, I think it’s actually a a state award but it was in Orlando Florida for my marching band!

@javascript where are you doing your online science courses?

Hi @dobbyisfree (love the username by the way! I’m a big Potterhead)
If you don’t mind me asking, what Chicago suburb are you from? I’m trying to see if there are more kids from my school that are applying. I play trombone too  I’m probably not the best person to chance you since I’m not a student and don’t completely know the admissions process. However, I think you have just as good of a chance as anyone else on this thread. Compared to IMSA’s SAT math average, yours is a bit low. However, that may be due to a bad school or other circumstances so hopefully that is brought up by the January SAT

@priyaluvsbooks I wish I could have gone to Preview Day, but I had a music conflict. I will be going to a 2 hour tour though. Are you going to be leading one of those?

@chicagonerd Yup! I’m gonna try signing up for most of them, the Preview Day tours were so much fun! @YoloSwagMaster don’t hesitate to ask anyone of us. We’re all friendly

@robinbatman I am taking online Biology with lab from keystone school.

Does joining Scholastic Bowl count as STEM? At my school its more like trivia rather than Science Team/ Olympiad. That’s why I didn’t join. Now, I’m thinking that it might have helped my chances as there is no STEM EC at my school. So what do you think? Scholastic Bowl useful as STEM? Also does FFA count as a STEM EC?

I’m an indian 8th grader in the Chicago suburbs, and I am applying to IMSA as well. I participate in a community service club, a math club, and a scholastic bowl club. I am also in choir, swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and acting. I know spanish, english, german, hindi, and some Kannada. My teachers like me. Plus, I lived in India for 5th and 6th grade, where I did physics, biology, chemistry, and computer science(we did coding). I reached the top 5% on the AMC8. I’m also going to regionals in Science Fair. I’m going to be an alternate for the Chapter Competition in math club. In addition, in 5th grade, my basketball team became the undefeated champions in the state. Also, I am an exceptional writer. However, I got 2 B’s and even a C from a horrible teacher in 7th grade who didn’t properly grade my work(once I redid an assignment at his request, and he didn’t grade it even though I repeatedly asked him to do so). Plus, IMSA won’t look at my 6th grade scores due to the different system in India. For my SAT scores, I have a 680 in CR, a 690 in math, and a 660 in writing. However, I took the SAT this Saturday, and I am confident I did better. Do I have a good chance of getting in?
