Imsa applicant class of 2019

If anybody help me with this info: if 8th graders selection is also district-based, same like for 9th graders? Or rural area 8th graders compared to the great opportunities Chicago-Naperville schools 8th graders?

Hi guys; this is probably really really really late (I just found this website a few days ago); but can you guys tell me what my chances are for getting in to IMSA??

Asian girl, 9th grader at Naperville (cries)
Middle school: strait A’s with one B in seventh grade
High school: Honors English 1, Honors Algebra II, Honors Chem (all A’s)
SAT Score: taken it yet (taking it this weekend), but math is around 740, RC is 640, writing is around 610

E/C’s
Math Tutor for middle and high school
MATHCOUNTS in middle school (the only thing offered at my middle school)
Science fair in middle school
Math Team (high school)
GEMS (Girls Engineering Math and Science club)
Class Council (treasurer)
Volunteer at the library every month and over summer
Music: Orchestra at school, played (and still playing) piano for 7 years, Fox River Youth Symphony Orchestra

Awards:
Not a lot, a few awards for math, volunteering, etc.

One last note: my twin sister is also applying, is there a really big chance that only one of us will get in?

@asiantwin1 Yo I’m from Naperville as well but I am applying as an 8th grader. I go to Scullen if you know where that is :P. . Just wondering, how are you doing Honors chem? Like, I am going into high school (neuqua) next year with honors bio as I thought it was the highest level science class for freshman. Just curious lol. Anyway yeah I think that you have all the parts down…Try boosting your RC score like don’t study for math as much these last days before the test. Just cram on that RC! Ec’s are pretty good. Awards are a weak point, but not enough to push you out of the game. Also, no there isn’t a really big chance that only one will get in. IMSA doesn’t look at your demographics or race if you are applying from Naperville, so you have to be in the Top 100 applicants to get accepted. So, it doesn’t matter if you have quintuplets from Naperville applying, each person has the equal chance of getting in.

Ah, I see~ Well, your are going to Nequa, which is a D204 school, right? I’m at Naperville Central (D203), so class selection might be different, which is why you are probably going to Honors Bio rather than Chem. The Honors Chem curriculum changed this year, so I’m not sure, but overall, Chem is REALLY REALLY easy; just a lot of math and calculating stuff. Are you also applying this year? If you are, good luck to you too!!

College Board is down for the whole day!!! I was in a middle of practice test … :frowning: had time to study today, but was not able to use it. Anybody know what is going on with the College Board?

Wao, the second I complained about College Board, the site is back!!! Am I a magician :-??

You are @javascript, you are.

@javascript is the most magical

Good luck to everybody taking the SAT tomorrow!

Hello fellow applicants! Just wonder if you guys could review my stats and then determine if I’m hopeless, prospective, or somewhere in between.

I’m an Indian male 9th grader who currently attends a D214 school (Cook County). My older brother went to IMSA and graduated in the class of 2014. I took the SAT twice: 800 Math (woo!) and 570 CR (boo!) the first time, and 780 Math and 650 CR (better) the second time. I did robotics and volunteer tutoring in middle school, and I also participated in a STEM program called “Mission: Possible,” where I managed to receive a solar panel grant for the school. In high school, I do Math Team (I’m a contestant for both freshman and sophomore, got a perfect once, almost landed a perfect on a sophomore test) and Science Olympiad (Wind Power and Astronomy – never medalled yet, I have a competition tomorrow and I am NOT prepared, haha). I went to Preview Day at IMSA as a fourth grader with my older brother when he was applying and I’m going again this Sunday. I also like to code and program games. I don’t have much awards in science, but I have several in math. My GPA is also pretty good (I don’t know what it is cumulatively since I can’t access old grade records from middle school, but I have a 4.0 in high school.)

Is this enough?

Also, how far are you guys in your applications? Most of you probably submitted already. I just have to write a few essays and finish my achievements section. As for the March 1st deadline for recs and transcripts, I already have most of them.

Hey @PlanarStuff, I’m an Indian Applicant from D210. Here’s what I think of your app.

SAT Scores: Great! Above average by over 100 points (CR+Math). Just a heads up, IMSA also looks at your writing scores. So make sure you did good on that part as well.

GPA: It looks like you said you got a 4.0, which is a great addition to your app.

EC’s: As long as your taking advantage of your town and city, you should be fine. You are from cook county so make sure you really took advantage, there are endless things to do in ChicagoLand.

Awards: Decent, make sure you replace this decency by writing good essays

Overall, you are a pretty good applicant. Just make sure your essays are great and you should be fine! Good Luck!

p.s. I would kill to have those SAT scores

@YoloSwagMaster Thank you! My Writing score was pretty good (630). I remember getting 1 or 2 B’s in middle school, so that may lower my GPA a little bit. My high school is also rescaling the GPA to a 5-point scale, will this affect my application in any way?

Nope @PlanarStuff, they look solely on your actually percentage points

I think…

@PlanarStuff Yeah, what @YoloSwagMaster said. They don’t care about your GPA.

Hi everyone! I’m going to be at Preview Day tomorrow as one of the tour guides! I’m really excited to meet some of you guys so make sure to come and say hi!

How did the SAT go for everyone? It was so much easier than I expected!

@chicagonerd I agree, I feel pretty good on how I did. It was my first try today. @YoloSwagMaster do you feel like you will get your apple watch on February 11?

@priyaluvsbooks How will we recognize you? Will you have “priyaluvsbooks” written on you? :-/

Well, @javascript I’m the only “Priya” at the event, so you can ask someone, but hopefully you end up in my group! I can change my profile picture to my photo if that helps

@javascript. I’m highly confident in math, like I think I got a 800. As for CR, I hope I got a 650. We will have to see.

@priyaluvsbooks. I’ll see you there!!
