Imsa applicant class of 2019

I tutored at my school for math and science

oh…@YoloSwagMaster at Edwards Hospital you need to be in High School or going into high school. and at alden its kinda just above the age of 13.

Hi guys I plan on applying for Imsa this year and I was wondering what you guys thought of my chances. I am about to enter the 9th grade. My GPA right now is 3.66 and all As in 9th grade would get it to 3.73 (Still pretty bad). I took the SAT back in June and I got a combined score of 1,960. This was with a 710 in Reading, 640 in math, and 610 in writing. I am taking it two more times in the fall. I got the second highest GPA award in my 8th grade class along with A science, Innovation, and Discovery award and A scholastic Bowl mvp award twice. I do a lot of volunteering with a Vetrens and military group (I have sent care packages to troops and stuff like that). I was hoping this would show I am mature. I am also a female from the Springfield area if that helps. So what do you guys think of my chances?

SAT score is good. GPA could be better, you can cover it up with an even better sat score. Awards and volunteering is good. Just out of curiosity what is your ethnicity?

I am thinking I can pretty easily improve my Sat score because I only studied a little bit a week before I took the test. Now that I have idea what it is like I am starting to spend a lot more time studying. I am white.

@priyaluvsbooks so do I just walk into Alden’s and say “can I volunteer”, and they will just let me in? Also @YoloSwagMaster my school, although the it is a public Naperville middle school, only had math counts, stem club, and ijas science fair. We didn’t have any bowls or Olympiad, and trust me if we did I would attend :D. I did all those activities stated above. Also Akash, for the volunteer work I would do at Alden’s, where do I put it. Like give me an example from last years application. Connect volunteer and a questioned from last year. Please Akash this will benefit me greatly.

What time do applications open?

i just put the volunteering under extracurriculars and connected it in my essay- for why i enjoy math and science… that’s it

@priyaluvsbooks should i call aldens on the phone and schedule the meeting, or go there directly. Also, how many times did you go to aldens.

just go there and ask for the volunteer director. If you go between 12-3 on a weekday then she’ll be there

Volunteering will not make or break your acceptance to IMSA. It’s just icing on the cake. You need to get a stellar SAT score. I mean really good. Like I’m working on getting a perfect math score. My friends are doing it already and I’m pretty darn close. Make your essays, personal and show genuine interest in math science and the academy. As an admission officer told me “I want to read your essay and see the kind of person you are in front of me.” Don’t ask how you do that because when you write the essays and you have all the things I listed you will make an essay that is good and unique. If your the kind of person that waits last minute for everything, don’t. Your gonna want to start making your essays early and perfect as you go. Don’t turn in your app. early though because you might get more awards to mention.
You have to work hard, out of 170 8th grade applicants only 20 made it in. Ik one and she got a 2350SAT. I got in with a 2200 SAT though. @lsutiger25

@YoloSwagMaster I am averaging at 1380 (Math + CR score) for SAT. Still working to bring this score up lol. Also do you think I should even mention my situation. Because I won’t be able to apply next year. Also I talked to mrs banham and she said 30 kids were accepted out of 120, and apparently this was the biggest amount of accepted 8th graders. Lol I hope this trend keeps going.

Oh. Oops well I completely miss heard the number of 8th graders accepted. Yeah I would mention your situation . Don’t make them pity you though. @lsutiger25

What time does applications open :frowning:

Idk. I wanna get a head start to it too. I check every other day

chill guys- it comes out in october/september

Cool cool

I would like to know what my chances are:
I am an 8th grader
I’m asian
I live in Naperville
I’m proficient in 4 languages
I have lots of eccs
my sat is
math: 560
cr: 590
gpa: 3.98
please let me know

Because your an Asian and live in Napeville, you probably need a higher SAT. Being proficient in 4 languages is unique and cool. Make sure you have a bunch of awards and make your essays gooooooddd. @mknsdh123

Thanks for the advice! How much should my sat scores be?
