Hey @chessmasterarnav. I’m no expert, but here’s what I think.
SATS: very good
GPA: I believe that’s the average accepted GPA so it’s fine
Location: that’s probably the most competitive spot. Don’t worry I’m in the same place
Awards: good could be better
EC: good.
Overall I think your a good applicant, I can’t really say if you’ll get in. I personally feel that you will either be on the bottom of the accepted pool of top of the waitlisted pool. Good luck!!!

Oh yea also my
Teacher Recs: Really good (According to the teachers who did my recommendations)
Essays: Best part of my application tbh. I had this peer reviewed like 5 times by 5 different people.
@llanaknits Did you go to South or something? I heard they got to nationals several times. Sadly my middle school didn’t have a SciO team.
@PlanarStuff yea i went to south. south hasn’t been to nationals since 2009 sadly but still 4th at state isn’t bad. it’s such a disappointment going to rmhs now; we don’t even have enough people to compete in everything.
@llanaknits We are going to compete against South in the regional next month.
@llanaknits IMSA’s sorta in the same situation as South; they always get third at state. I think the last time they went to nationals was 1993? Haha. Meanwhile, Prospect has had a 6 year streak of making it to nationals from 2000-2005, and then they just stopped. We’re a semi decent team now.
Hi guys. Im a freshman with a 3.8 gpa and has gotten straight A’s all her life. I did really bad on the SAT and got a 1620 because I have anxiety. I play a lot of sports and Im in key club. I put a science fair and ICTMs for my awards along with school grade awards and sports awards. A unique thing is that I am learning 6 languages and I put that in my app. My teacher recs should be good and I am confident in my essays. Im just really bummed about my SAT and I think I wont get in and they wont look at me because of how low my score is. What are my chances of getting in?
Do you mind sharing the breakdown of your SAT’s? (Like what you got for math, reading, etc.)
I got a 560 for math a 540 for reading and a 520 for writing.
3.8 with that SAT score gives you a very low chance but there is still a chance! If everything else in you’re application is good, then I think you can get in. What location are you from?
With the total calculated gpa from my other years its a 3.92. Im from Dixon and I’m the only kid who applied in my school. Dixon is in Lee County so I dont know how many people apply there.
@Gmitch123 Oh ok that brings a whole different perspective. A guy from a place where no one lives with a 3.92 and 1540 SAT has the same chance as a person coming from Naperville with 4.0 and 2100 SAT. In simple terms, yeah I am fairly positive due to you’re location and new GPA, you should be fine. Still, that SAT is a huge blemish, but hopefully you’re other parts of the application can make up for it!
@Gmitch123 Your SAT score isn’t nearly as important as you think it is. It’s mostly a minor gauge to see your test taking abilities. It’s a really small portion of what determines if you get accepted or not since they know not everyone got the education and resources to do amazing on it. I got a 1600 and I got accepted. Just don’t worry about it too much
I know we are just freshman and shouldn’t be worrying to much about this. But I was wondering what colleges you all want to go to? Personally my dream colleges are uchicago and northwestern.
Nice @floridagators100.
Now that IMSA application deadlines have passed, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to exchange essays just to see how we compared. PM me if your interested.
ik these are reach schools, but i really want to go to stanford or maybe berkeley
and yea sure @YoloSwagMaster
