@llanaknits I’m shooting for Stanford as well! Definitely a reach, but it gives me some motivation.
@notarapper were you wait-listed?
guys - you can go to the CAC section of the website and find the school profile there. It will tell you what colleges the graduates go. I found it interesting. Too bad we can’t see the naviance graphs. Regarding the SAT scores, I know a lot of 203/204 kids who were waitlisted with much high scores. The SAT score, like everything else should be looked at in the context of the region you are applying from. Just because someone got in with a low SAT score does not mean it is not important. If you come from underrepresented region and a URM then a lower SAT score might be sufficient. I know there is a formal looking document in the IMSA website that gives you an idea of how important the different components of the application are. I can’t find it now.
Who is excited or ICTM this Saturday?
@survivorfan1 i was actually looking at a list like that, and i thought it was cool too. a lot of people obviously go to u of i but there are also pretty high percentages of ivy league and similar level schools. it really shows how going to imsa can help you even later on.
@survivorfan1 Were you referring to this document?

I am gong to ICTM. Can anybody explain this question?
Let x be a single digit non-zero positive integer and let y be a two digit positive integer.
Find all ordered pairs of the form (x y) such that the sum of x and y and the product of x
and y each contain the same digits but in reverse order. Be certain to express all possible
answers as ordered pairs of the form (x y).
Wait @Bamboolong and @bluepink. Are you guys IMSA applicants or just random people?
I am an applicant. I have read this site since last Oct.
There are probably so many people just reading and not responding on this chat.
To all of you guys just watching. Good luck!!
@bluepink Haha, I’m 100% sure our school are using the exact same prep material for the individual tests if that’s one of your questions
Is anyone going to Scholastic Bowl regionals on Monday?
@YoloSwagMaster Not an applicant. I’m just related to IMSA students.
Do you know how to solve this question? I am very frustrated.
g
I’m going for Harvard’s medical school (ik ik its a stretch)
@madmax1503 Nope
@survivorfan1 Your region doesn’t affect what your SAT score needs to be to be eligible. It’s all based on the rest of your application and partially the education of your school. Demographics are minimal when looking at individual parts of the applications.
@YoloSwagMaster Even though the question wasn’t directed towards me, my current top choices are University of Chicago if I go into medicine and IIT if I go into computer science, but of course it’s hard to tell where you’ll end up going until you’re a senior.
Also, don’t base anything on the fact that a lot of IMSA graduates go to UIUC. It’s not where I’d prefer to go, but it’s honestly not bad, especially for a public school and almost everyone who goes here gets accepted to it. Keep in mind that there are people who were accepted to Ivy League or Ivy Calibur schools who decided to go there. It’s really what you make of it going here and how high you aim.
You guys shouldn’t be taking your opinions on college so set in stone, even if you don’t think they are like that, because that’s a long way from how tbh
@bamboolong that’s not it unfortunately. That is an interesting PowerPoint though.
@notarapper that’s not the admission officer told us. Also that’s not what the IMSA kids we know told us. If you are from downstate Illinois and you are URM they don’t expect you to have as high SATs as Naperville kids have.
On college - honestly if I plan to go to UIUC I will just stay at my current school. it seems like UIUC is the safety school for kids at Imsa
@ck1012. Harvard Med? Is that even good, obviously Harvard is amazing but I thought it was more law and journal not medicine. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was, I mean come on it’s Harvard.
I haven’t been looking to much into colleges, I’m more worried about getting a 4.0 GPA, close to 36 ACT, and being very active in and out of school. I’ll start thinking about all that college stuff next year. I only said UChicago because my cousin goes there and he says it looks like Hogwarts, I’ve always dreamt of going there.
@YoloSwagMaster Its been my dream for the longest time even though it isn’t as known as their law or journal program
@survivorfan1 I go here too. It’s true to an extent but whatever they’re telling you isn’t entirely true. Pretty much, if you’re from a school with bad education or just a generally crappy town (which isn’t only downstate), that doesn’t mean you’re allowed to tank any part of your application and expect to be in the same position as someone who did well from a good school. There are a lot of people from East Aurora who applied (which to my knowledge has terrible education and I believe 7/8 of them were minority) and only five of them got accepted. Really, if you did everything you could at your old school, you’re likely to get in. That’s all that means. I go here, I know people who came from all different kinds of places who got accepted, and I’ve talked to admissions (my chem teacher usually takes part in admissions) and being from a bad school doesn’t mean you can tank your applications.
@YoloSwagMaster Harvard Med, from what I hear, is pretty good. Also, Harvard as a whole, again from what I hear, has terrible education. My physics teacher went there and he said he thought the education was terrible there. It mostly looks really good when applying for jobs, though there are a few departments that are what you’d expect for what most people pay to go there.
@notarapper I’m only commenting that SAT is important too. You seem to downplay the importance of SAT. There used to be a document in the school website that lists the criteria. The most important was SAT math score. I don’t think the admission officer will mislead us.
Harvard = terrible education? I am not blinded by the name of the school but I don’t think I will equate Harvard with terrible education, regardless of what the physics teacher says. I think I know who you are talking about. Let’s not generalize from small sample size. Just like because someone got in with a low SAT score means it is not important.
