Imsa applicant class of 2019

sO APPARENTLY MY 1 SEMESTER TRANSCRIPTIONS WERE LOST IN TRANSMISSION AND I HAVE TO GO TO THE SCHOOL RECORDS LADY BETWEEN THE END OF SCHOOL AND THE START OF TRACK TODAY AND I AM MILDLY UPSET OVER ThIS

@OhBloodyHell @planarStuff It was really surprised to see that IMSA showed up only once or twice in the entire Sci Oly award ceremony. I remember IMSA also ranked 10th in both Freshmen and Junior in NSML math contest this year. It seems like IMSA is no longer a top-tier team in both math and science. What happened? X_X

I was also at Sci Oly last Saturday. I had to overcome a bad start :frowning: From 7am to 1pm, I had 5 events in a row with no breaks! I had mile-long walking diagonally across the campus a couple of times to catch the next event. And it was sweaty 85 degrees outside and nearly 90 degrees inside in some aged chemistry lab where the heater was still turned on and windows wide open. Anyway, I was exhausted and dehydrated halfway through the tournament, but I still managed to reach the podium three times (more than the entire IMSA team :stuck_out_tongue: jk ). (2nd in dynamic planet, 5th in both Experimental Design, 5th in Meteorology, 6th in Disease Detectives, 8th in Anatomy.)

@bubblemaster3000 Like I said, it could be because of budgeting issues for the clubs. Also, club schedules at IMSA are wacky because there’s always going to be a large part of the club that can’t participate on certain days due to workload reasons.

Congrats on your SciOly victories! Sadly couldn’t participate this year since the seniors on the varsity team mostly have senioritis haha.

All I have left to look forward to in terms of competition is ICTM state. I’m in Geometry instead of Algebra I for the individuals. I wish I did the Alg I competition instead because it looks really easy.

@PlanarStuff that is not convincing. Those “Big Four” (Stevenson, Whitney Young, New Trier, Neuqua Valley) all have overwhelming workload. And you don’t need much budget for most Sci Oly events.

Good luck on your ICTM next month! I couldn’t make it (as 8th grader). If ICTM is easy, try AMC10/12 and AIME. I only scored 3 out 15 this year. It was hard. b-(

@bubblemaster3000 maybe you can resurrect Imsa dominance by yourself next year. Lol. I think Imsa has a number (maybe 10) really great students while there is a big section of students who do well enough but would’ve done better at their old school. It is definitely not as deep as they used to when they did really well in competitions. But I agree with you budget is not the reason. I heard the juniors are not as good as the seniors at Imsa and the nsml results show it. There’s a few great sophomores. I know a few of them. To be fair Imsa doesn’t really have a big freshman group.
@OhBloodyHell weren’t you learning at Neuqua? It is a great competitive school. The reason why people think about college is becaus I think it is more crucial to learning ( in general) than high school so there is a focus to getting in the most challenging college. I’d hate to have my educational career to peak in high school. So I think there is still a few of us who are wondering whether the best path is to stay at our current school which in some ways are comparable to Imsa or enrol at Imsa next school year.

@OhBloodyHell Okey. So, can you give me like baseline stats of people who got in in your class from neuqua?

@bubblemaster3000 What AIME did you take? I or II? I have a sophomore friend who took I and he got either 1 or 2 right.

I would’ve qualified for AIME if I had gotten enough sleep, haha. I walked into AMC10 with 1-2 hours of sleep and slept for a portion of the test. #totallynotbutthurt
Looking back at those AMC questions, I realize they were pretty easy and I’m kind of ashamed that I didn’t qualify. Next year, though.

Honestly I think, if I get accepted, I will go. I believe I will learn so much more at IMSA and I value that much more than getting into an Ivy league (I would think that being smarter helps your chances more, but I guess not). Besides I think I will meet some awesome people at IMSA and I love being around those type of people!

If I get accepted and choose to go, placement testing directly conflicts with my English final…

Idk about your area, but everyone I have met who went to IMSA went from there to Ivy league schools (and schools equivalent to ivys). But, I live in Naperville, and everyone I know are from 204 schools.

@lsutiger25 Top 10% IMSA students can get multiple admissions to top 20 universities, but UIUC is still the most popular choice for IMSA students for practical reasons.

I’m lucky, the testing is literally the friday of the week before I have finals but I was worried lmao.
@chicagonerd If you choose to go, can you see if you can take your English final at another time where you have a free period during finals week? Or maybe IMSA will have alternate testing times for those who have to miss the testing due to similar conflicts? I hope that you can make both, it would suck if you had to miss one or the other.

My math, English, and bio finals are on that day, that’s not good

Just a random break in conversation. Hey guys! Wanted to just pop in and say good luck to you all as the letters will be sent VERY soon. If you have any questions about anything relating to sophomore stuff please feel free to message me as I know the enter process goes very fast and there are a lot of questions. I am currently a sophomore (so rising junior) who is excited to meet the class of 2019/ the bby sophs(you’ll get called that a lot next year)! Anyway good luck

@red42413 Did you get that transcript situation sorted out?

And @NerdyGirl2000 how soon is “VERY soon”? I’m literally going to die just waiting here

Hi everyone. I have been looking over this conversation for a while and I was wondering if any of you could judge my chances of getting into imsa. Here are my stats.

Sat: math 720, reading 620, writing 670
gpa: 4.0
Evaluations:
English: better than excellent because she goes to the review committee almost every year and she knows exactly what to write.
Math: also very excellent because she loves me and got help from english teacher.
Science: She loves me a lot so it should be good

E.C.s: NJHS, math club for three years, more math awards than I can count, no science awards because there were no opportunities at school, but I took many opportunities at home; Capstone economic program in which my team found a way to revitalize a local street.

I am in 8th grade.

also does anyone know when the letters are mailed. like the exact date

@themathgeek overall I would say you have a decent shot at getting in 8th grade, I would say a 50% shot. You will have a much easier time in 9th grade

@themathgeek - I would put your chances at 50/50 since you are 8th grade; 95/5 if you apply next year - higher chances if you are a girl. I heard that it could be first week of may at the earliest; second at the latest. They used to mail them on may 15th but last year was earlier.
@Bamboolong - who gets in HYPSM? what kinds of students are they? I heard there’s 3 who got into at least two of HYPSM this year. How did they do it? My parents are almost tempted to come with their friend (current parent) at the college fair this weekend.

Do you guys know when the placement tests in litchfield are? I can’t seem to find them. :-?
