Imsa applicant class of 2019

@NerdyGirl2000 Thank you!
I’m really hoping that they’ll announce the mailing of the letters today or at least by Monday. My parents are getting very anxious, especially since my mom is out of the country during the time window where we’ll probably get our letters, haha.

@Bamboolong - thank you so much for your reply! that is very thorough. That guy is impressive! I wonder what else he has aside from the Siemens. Thanks again

@survivorfan1 Probably nice personal traits, consistency in ECs, and a hard-working attitude. There’s no formula but a basic principle: Just be the best of yourself.

I’m going to be checking the mail box everyday for the next two weeks. Fingers crossed! :-bd

Hey is anyone here going to the robotics championships next week in St. Louis?

Thank you .I guess I will have to wait .I also had a question about IMSA college day. Can general public attend for information sake ?

Thank you Bamboolong for the college information. Several questions though:

  1. IMSA does not calculate GPAs so the GPA listed is probably calculated by colleges. I suppose they use a A-4.0, B-3.0 system with no weighting? I wonder if they make distinction to A/A-/B+/B- ?
  2. Are those GPAs for admitted students or all applicants to that school? They seem really high. Understand those are the most competitive schools. Would you mind sharing a bit more information about other great schools like Caltech, Duke, Columbia etc?
  3. How are the grades in 9th grade used in college application for IMSA students? anyone care to share?
Again, thank you for sharing those valuable information. much appreciated.

I haven’t gotten an email that they sent the letters yet, but my email is not working properly. Any of you got it?

@themathgeek the site would blow up already if anybody received an email

Anybody invited to attend imsaloquium on Thursday?

@Kagero what d204 school do you go to. I am a PA student from scullen. I am attending neuqua next year. Also holt cow ur SAT score is so good I got 680 math and 670 CR…

Hey everyone! I was in your place last year, I checked this thread multiple times every day haha, I was so scared I wouldn’t get in, but here I am sitting at sophomore u-bench  I know for a fact that selection was this week so your fate has already been decided. You should get you letters soon, I live in Flossmoor Ilinois about an hour away from IMSA and I and my boyfriend who lives by me got our letters around this time (I remember bc I was at an AP World study session when he told me he got his). If you have any questions, just ask! I understand most of what you might be going through. Cheers!

@Kagero No, IMSA college day is only for juniors at IMSA and their parents/families to gather information from the college reps for their upcoming applications. It’s not open to the public. Please do not come unless you are an IMSA junior or parent as the event is crowded enough.

I would suggest to all of you questioning about specific college acceptances to reach out to those colleges by contacting your local reps directly. Regarding the posting of specific IMSA college acceptance information from Naviance, remember that that information is for IMSA student and parents and is password protected. It is not meant to be publicized no matter how innocuous you feel it is. Anecdotal information is fine.

IMSA guarantees you a top notch education. It does not guarantee you an Ivy League acceptance letter come senior year.

I really just want to know the exact day the letters are being mailed because it will give me some level of control over the situation, even though I know that my fate is out of my hands.

I am going crazy! :((

I have to apologize for imprudently disclosing some college admission information. Yes, the info is meant for IMSA students and only meaningful to them. Naviance info certainly has its limits for it only provides GPA and SAT/ACT scores and disregards other factors in admission. You should take it with a grain of salt in reading such info from your own school if it is available. Naviance is to give you a baseline to know where you stand and help you make a sound list of colleges for application.

@fabrice The GPA means IMSA GPA in sophomore and junior years, calculated by IMSA. IMSA transcript does not show GPA but lists the grades of the courses (like A-, B+ etc.). There is no weight in IMSA GPA calculation. Any A is 4 and B is 3. IMSA will send the IMSA transcript along with the 9th grade transcript from the student’s home school to the colleges.

If some students get into prestigious colleges from IMSA, it should be viewed as a byproduct of their learning. It should not be the motive of learning, IMO.

@ck1012 yea i’ll be there. i am sooo excited!! sadly its like right when people got letters last year lol

@llanaknits I know I hope I’ll forget about it and just enjoy championships. What team are you with and are you going to Robo Prom?

So IMSA usually emails us when the letters are sent right?

I believe so

Hopefully they’ll be sent tomorrow or on Tuesday!
