Imsa applicant class of 2019

Kerbal Space Program is awesome. I play it all the time. By the way are you in 9th grade @rocketman23?

Oh wait duh you are

Yeah

Congratulations to all the new accepted and wait listed people! You can send your Kik usernames to @red42413 if you have Kik and want to join the group chat.

Anyone going to state for Math Team this weekend?

@rocketman23 I am. What division are you in? I’m in Division 4AA

I am divisions 3AA

My school is the only in our district to be in 4AA so it’s harder for us to qualify for state. Other schools in our district that have worse math teams qualified their entire teams for state because they have lower standards D:

Anyway, I qualified individually for Geometry and for FS 8 person. OP schools like Fremd were at our regionals site, so it wasn’t very pretty

Also, how did y’all perform during the NSML season (if your school is in the NSML)?

Same

@priyaluvsbooks thank you! Can you tell me more about the whole IMSA experience so far? I’m pretty excited to go. And also can someone tell me more about the Placement Testing? How do those go?

Hello! I’m a current sophomore, and was waitlisted. If anyone has any questions let me know. Congratulations on all accepted and waitlisted students: Welcome to IMSA!

@isolatedmind message me on CC and I’ll give you my contact info or something! It would be a lot easier to talk

I am honestly having second thoughts about IMSA, I have a few questions about the process

  1. How was your overall GPA affected by IMSA?
  2. Will an above average but not exceptional student, like me, succeed there?
  3. Does IMSA help you get into elite schools (Northwestern, UChicago) and get scholarships at U of I and UIC?
  4. What makes IMSA so different and better than other schools?

It would be nice if any of the current students could lend their opinions on this. Thanks!

“Honestly I think, if I get accepted, I will go. I believe I will learn so much more at IMSA and I value that much more than getting into an Ivy league (I would think that being smarter helps your chances more, but I guess not). Besides I think I will meet some awesome people at IMSA and I love being around those type of people!”

@YoloSwagMaster - you said that a few days ago. What changed? Trust your gut. My gut is telling me I will be sufficiently challenged at my current school with better success at contests. I have a research lined up already for me a year ahead of what regular Imsa kids would have. I think I will also have a better shot at elite schools from my current school. If you are not challenged at your current school You should go to Imsa. Scholarships at uiuc or uic would be difficult wherever you go. Illinois is cash strapped. It’s the same reason why Imsa is having budgetary issues.

You will get in. I already know of 3 people possibly 4 including me who will decline. I am honestly surprised you got wait listed. That’s a head scratcher.

Idk @survivorfan1, it’s mainly my parents who think that I would be better off at my school. They’ve really made me rethink my goals. But thank you for reminding me of that, I definitely have a lot of thinking to do if I get in from the waitlist. Congrats on being accepted!

Hii, I’m an 8th grader and I got accepted~ I don’t know what to do because Sci Oly nationals are on the 20th :frowning:

@PurpleFlux maybe you could try contacting the school and asking if you could take it another time? If it was anything else I would tell you to skip it, but nationals is important.

@PurpleFlux there are two placement testing dates, I’m sure you could request one which doesn’t conflict with nationals. Congrats on getting in by the way! If you have any questions- add me on facebook or something and I’ll answer them!

@ PurpleFlux and @ Bubblemaster 3000 and other accepted 8th graders Would you mind sharing your demographics SAT scores What level Math and science are you taking in school?
extra curriculars and year of birth? this is just for future 8th grade applicants and 9th grade applicants.
