maybe you should try the VR version of IMSA that two SIR students made
@notarapper - I don’t know anybody that goes to IMSA though (my school doesn’t send a lot of people to IMSA)
Hi! I was accepted into IMSA this year. I had a couple of questions about the placement testing.
1.) How difficult is the placement testing (is it possible or likely that I would not be able to test out of a class that I have already taken?)
2.) Does IMSA allow you to test out of a class given good enough AP scores?
3.) After initial placement testing, can you try to test out of another class? For example, if I initially only test out of Calculus BC but later taught myself Differential Equations, would I be able to try to test out of Differential Equations or would I have to take the class even if I had already learned the material?
4.) What format are the tests in? Specifically, how high do the standard placement tests go, and are there some classes you can’t test out of?
5.) Does IMSA take your previous classes into account? (e.g. if I have already taken AP Calculus do I have to pass IMSA’s test in addition or do I immediately get out of it?)
Thanks in advance for all of your help!

@glad00 AFAIK the only class that you can skip out of via AP Score is the core Computer Science Inquiries class for sophomores. (Score >=4 on AP Comp Sci A) I just took it yesterday, and I’m pretty sure I nailed a 5.
Thanks! I was wondering because I’m taking BC Calculus tomorrow… hope to meet you at orientation!
@PlanarStuff Since you already took this exam, I have a question for you. I am thinking about taking AP Computer Science class over the summer or next year. Do you recommend to take this class at the same time with Honors Integrated Math III ( the last one before calculus covering algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry and statistics). Or I should complete this Math III before taking AP computer Science?
Does anyone know what percentage of the waitlisted candidate get accepted? I see a response that there are 81 waitlisted candidates? Is that a magic number OR for sure?
Yeah. @NewBie70. I called them and they said that. We’re in this together!
@llama9 You could always PM one of us on here if you’re really interested.
- I can’t really say since I hadn’t taken many maths before IMSA so I couldn’t answer most of the questions lol
- IMSA doesn’t care about AP scores for any class but computer science (and I believe you need a 4 or higher to test out). Otherwise, you’re given a test at the start of chem and physics (respectively) and if you get a high enough score, you’ll be put in a chem or physics elective (and you don’t generally get to choose).
- There is no testing out of electives. If you teach yourself differential equations, you don’t have to take it. After you’re done with calculus, you’ll usually take multivariable calculus but you don’t have to, and from there, you’re able to take pretty much any math class you want.
- I can’t tell you too much about it, but as far as I remember, it was just a normal test where we were given math problems you’d see on any normal unit test for all of the classes. That’s as much as I can remember though, that was a whole year ago.
- Not really. They look at it but most of what determines what class you’re put in is based on how you do on placement tests. For example, my roommate took algebra 2 last year but he missed one topic on the test so he had to take the whole class (MI2).
I just found this forum and I was accepted into the IMSA class of 2019, do I have to give my number here or can I DM someone???
Hi! This is my first time posting on this forum but I’ve been watching it for a couple weeks. I got accepted and wanted to know if I could get added to the kik chat. I don’t have a computer right now so it’s a lot easier to navigate kik on my phone. Also I’d love to meet some classmates. Where should I go to get to the group chat? (my kik username is @kikmeorikillyou if someone can add me, the username is so cringey it’s from like 6th grade haha)
@javascript I didn’t take the class, so I don’t really know what exactly you do/learn in it. I just reviewed the Java objects/classes that would be on the test and then it was a breeze. If you don’t have prior knowledge in algorithmic logic / OOP, then I recommend that you take the class. As for whether you should do Algebra 2 w/ Trig beforehand, it doesn’t really matter since you don’t do much math in the AP test. I think the only thing on the test that was directly related to math was number bases, which just requires Algebra 1 knowledge.
@PlanarStuff Thanks for suggestions, I am studying JavaScript on my own for several months, so I guess I will just go ahead and do that you did - study on my own and take the exam. :-B
JavaScript =/= Java
just letting you know
No SEAMS or Integrated Science news…
@javascript what SEAMS?
@bubblemaster3000 https://www.imsa.edu/admissions/promise-summer-enrichment-academics-mathematics-and-science-seams SEAMS is a summer preparation 10 days camp. Since you get admitted already, you are not interested in this program. It is for 8th graders planning to apply to IMSA
@javascript I got my seams letter yesterday and I got accepted, so you should recieve it today.
Hi! I got accepted and I was wondering if I could be added to the kik chat. I’m @velociraptorroar
