@caressmytoenails thanks for the info, what if I use airport express to generate my own wifi? I can plug it into ethernet port that is in every room as far as I know. I mean if ethernet access is available?
@lsutiger25 I was thinking about taking online course with them… however, it is super expensive for online… I assume it is also a very expensive summer residential program. I am sure it will have some positive impact on your application.
@javascript Sigh, my school I’m going to next year is quite hilarious. All 10 of the people that I know are going to apply next year from my school are sorta equal. Some people have better teacher recs. Some people have better GPA. Some people have better SAT scores. This is what makes it so grueling if you are applying from my school. Alas, IMSA admissions from my school feels sorta like a lottery because of how equal everyone is. What do you think is the most important thing in applying to IMSA?
@lsutiger25 Well, I think IMSA is trying to find out what kind of person you are as a whole. Your interest in math and science, your SAT, GPA, teachers thoughts about you, you presenting yourself in your essays, your extracurriculars, parents thoughts about you… your maturity… all together building their impression of you). They are trying to see you through all this info. They are trying to understand how much IMSA and society total will benefit from you being at IMSA and also if you will benefit from studying there (versus your home school). Try to get a super impressive optional recommendation may be… You need to stand out from other 10 people somehow if everybody so equal. It is hard to say what will happen next year… maybe there will be over 700 people to compete against instead of less than 600 this year…
I just was thinking… if you would follow my plan and move to a super rural area like we discussed before … you will stand out for sure <:-P
@javascript Yeah, the standing out part I feel is the most important.
My child is going to Imsa this fall. I think I read that you have Ethernet jacks in your rooms for a better internet connection? If that is correct can you bring a second pc or laptop and get online by Ethernet connection. ( I do know that you can only connect wirelessly on one device, which of course my child will use that for the main laptop)
Does anyone know when we receive our schedules?
@JustanewParent I think you should contact IMSA admission office to find the answer for your question. I do not think many kids have several laptops at IMSA…
@XxSwegLordxX I started a new forum for SEAMS and Integrated Science for Summer 2016
Hey all,
My name is Zach and I’m part of the Summer Sibling Committee for the upcoming school year. Each year, Student Council runs the Sibling Program to help the incoming sophomores get acclimated to IMSA a bit easier. Primarily, that means pairing each sophomore with an upperclassman that will help him or her out in the first few months. Instructions for that will be released later. However, during the summer, Student Council and a group of students known as the Summer Sibling Committee also run an ask.fm (ask.fm/BigSibling) to answer any questions you may have coming into IMSA. I’d encourage you to look through past questions as well as ask any new ones you may have (just keep the questions appropriate).
Additionally, the entire list of the Class of 2019 was recently released! Soon, Student Council will create a Facebook group for your entire class so that you guys can talk and get to know each other before arriving on campus in August.
Congratulations and we look forward to welcoming you to campus!
Cheers!

@floridagators100 Hey, I know it’s been a while this thread posted. But is there anyway you can share the contact details of the tutor. I live in northwest subarbs and I am very much interested to get into IMSA. I need all the help I could get. If you can share your tutor details I will contact her n take nessasary help to fulfill my dreams (well my parents) to attend IMSA.
Hey guys…
I think plenty of people ask this all the time, but I’m gonna ask too. It’s also a little long… sorry.
What do you all think my chances of getting into IMSA class of 2020 are?
My new SAT scores are 1190/1600. Math is 600. Reading is 590. They are decent. I’ll try to improve them in 9th grade, and I am doing many prep classes. My goals are 680 Math and 620 Reading… though it probably wont happen.
I’ve taken Honors Geometry in 8th grade and I’m gonna take Honors Algebra 2 with Trig in the coming school year. I’ve gotten a head start because on weekends of my 8th grade year, I’ve taken Algebra 2 with Trig. The coming school year I will maybe take Pre-Calc on weekends. I’ve competed in Math Count and AMC too.
In science, I took Honors Biology, and coming 9th grade, I’ll be in Honors Chem.
All of my classes, except French 2, Gym, and Orchestra- Chamber, in the coming year are advanced. They are graded differently.
I don’t really know how to calculate my 8th grade GPA as I have a few classes, English, Math, Science, that were honors. So it’s either a 3.69 equally weighed, or a 3.9…?
I am a little quite in class. I have social anxiety and am shy. Once I get comfortable though, I am pretty active. I never got comfortable enough though in a few of y classes. I’ll try to participate more coming freshman year, but as of right now, I believe I have an okay recommendation from 8th grade teachers, not an outstanding one, if I ask them… though I did win the Merit, Kindness, and Respect Award from the principle during graduation, me and four other people out of a good 200 kids for the 3 years at the middle school.
I am really excited and so are my parents. They are pushing me and I am pushing myself too. I feel like I am ready next year and the year after that to work hard. IMSA is a dream school of mine, and hopefully will help with me getting into my dream college as well.
By the way, I am Asian- Chinese, and queer, so I don’t know if that is a factor.
Oh! Are gender and sexual orientation diverse and accepted at IMSA?
Also, can anyone recommend some good tutor info, dm me?
Anyways, thanks for putting up this discussion and maybe helping me out…
@YoloSwagMaster did you get the call? I was told that Admissions pulled out a number of applicants from the waitpool…
@Jayy13 Ok. So, if you are coming from a rough area like southern illinois than you have decent chance. But, you have to step up your game if you are coming from chicagoland area. You’re SAT scores are below average accepted, but these are averages… So, shoot for a 1300 (seems impossible but with enough study you can do it)! Also, IMSA doesn’t look at weighted grades. So if you have a gpa of 3.69, this is below average. To help this you may need to get straight A’s first semester of 9th grade to make this up. Everything else looks good on your application! I am applying as well next year.
@Jayy13 I’d say that you are in a pretty good place for applying to IMSA. Other than working on improving your SAT scores and keeping your grades up, I’d say that you should continue in the Math team, and maybe branch out into another science/stem club. On the gender and sexual diversity at IMSA, I’m not quite sure yet. (I was just accepted this year, and I don’t even know how I got in, seeing as I have literally no outstanding qualities) I’m bi myself, so hey fellow LGBTQ person! All genders seem pretty well distributed from what I’ve seen at IMSA, but I have no way to tell how IMSA feels about LGBTQ things. As for tutoring information, if there’s a C2 near you you can try going there. If you can’t find a tutor, maybe purchase some workbooks. I bumped up my SATS significantly from some collegeboard workbooks without much tutoring, but it depends on how you like to learn.
Hey guys! I am going to be in the 9th grade this upcoming school year. Right now, I live in Qatar, but next year I will be moving to Illinois. Not too long ago I took the SAT and got a completely perfect score! (2nd try). I have been taking advanced classes since I was very little. I recently completed the pre-college program at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar, which is a very prestegious program. I am working along with researchers at CMUQ in research that related to AI in Medicine. I was wondering if it would be better for me to apply to IMSA next year and be and have a better chance for universities in the US, or if I should begin university in Qatar. btw I have taken Calc BC and got a 5 on the exam, is there more math for me to take at IMSA?
@egyptianmonster If you are ready for college, why would you attend a high school for 3 more years? I think if you planning on living in Qatar in the future, go to college there. It is my opinion.
