Imus blast away

Touche!!!

Yes, you mentioned this before. Just so’s ya know, it’s just as ludicrous the second time around. And yes, THAT does make me wonder why you felt it bore repeating.

Did I miss something?

Has anyone from the media apologized for referring to the innocent Duke students as "White hooligan RAPISTS’? I think if I were a male, I would find that just as offensive as the term that Imus used!

Where are the aplogies ??? Who got fired ???

^

would think it more offensive since the use of rapist was in a literal sense and not a pathetic attempt at humor

Yep…still waiting for THOSE and most likely will continue to be. FOREVER.

I like the article posted by randc (it made many of the same points I tried to), but it hasn’t prevented people here from bending over backwards to defend gangsta rap, apparently. I don’t get it; but I guess that’s why I’m no longer a liberal.

This is the first I’ve heard of rap’s supposed genesis in blues, Johnny Cash  and…bluegrass? I thought it had more of a connection to James Brown-type funk, African and Jamaican beats and traditions, and perhaps the dozens.

ldmom: I was asking what women’s groups have spoken out against gangsta rap, not Imus.

Thank goodness. One of my co-workers just pointed out that according to the Drudge report, Hillary is now going to meet with the Rutgers team in person.

No way is that a political opportunist thing to do… No way.

Have any of the presidential contenders stood up in support of the Duke team?

Pity the poor Dookies.

^ Spoken with genuine sincerity from a Rutgers alum? ;)

Odyssey Tigger, check into his kids ranch & you’ll see why it is bogus. Money raised from his radiothon supports a ranch on which he & his family live. He & his wife hold board membership. Only a small number of kids ever see the ranch, for only a small amount of time – It serves ten kids a week for ten weeks in the summer. Cost works out to over $25,000 per kid. He found a way to live on a beautiful working cattle ranch while having all the expenses covered as a charity. A brilliant scam.

His name is on top of the kids’ onclogy wing at Hackensack Medical Center and inside is the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology. I guess he was never told “Don’t blow your own horn!”

HH, I missed the defense of gangsta rap here. It seems to be pretty universally condemned, along with other anti-women songs from other genres. I think the general agreement is that a) it is all indefensible, and b) it has nothing to do with Imus’ remarks, which are equally indefensible.

So, who is defending it?

Wow, CBS has fired Imus.

I’m surprised. This is really interesting.

Think you missed parts of the thread, garland.

Btw, http://www.now.org

Nothing pops out at me on this site regarding misogynistic music lyrics.

Imus out at CBS

Doubly weak.

Management being ripped bigtime by WFAN voices Mike and the Mad Dog

Sticker

1) I believe he bought the adjoining land and built his own house there.
2) My further understanding is he only lives there when the kids live there.
3) I have never heard of a bad word from any of those kids or their parents
4) Its been investigated before
5) It wasn’t up to Imus to name those buildings, it was done as a tribute to he and his wife

“Imus out at CBS”

Wow, sooner than I thought. I figured he’d just never return from his “suspension”.

Joe–just reported your post.

HH–read the whole thing; please list post numbers–thanks!

Joev, I’d call your remarks sexist. Women are often judged on their looks when looks has nothing to do with the job in question. Like in basketball. Women in tv news, for example, are put out to pasture or start chasing botox & plastic surgery remedies, where men broadcasters can have liver spots, receding hairlines, and saggy jowels. It’s so discouraging to hear women athletes being judged on their appearance. It is entirely irrelevant.

Satellite radio…makes me wonder. Remember when network was the big seller and then cable…satellite is the future. I am very curious to see how this develops. Imus isnt the whole story here. They cannot sell Catie on network, cable is slipping and who wonders where the future bux are.

Mel won’t be making any controversial hires until his merger goes through (or gets denied).

Thank you, Garland and StckerShock. Remarks like that make me literally nauseous, and seeing others call people on them is at least somewhat heartening.

This is just proof we as parents are right when we tell our kids “think before you speak.”

Do you see what can happen?

There has got to be more to this story. His wife is hosting the program tomorrow. huh?
