Referring to Adam (no longer Pacman) Jones. Is Imus an idiot again, or are some people interpreting his remarks to suit their own beliefs? A guest host was discussing Jones’ NFL suspension for a shooting in a Vegas nightclub. Then host added about his numerous other arrests. Imus asked “what color is he”? Other host responded “African-American”. Then Imus responded “there you go”.

Some interpret Imus’ response as meaning all black guys are ghetto- can’t keep out of trouble. Unfairly lumping all Americans of African ancestry as ghetto lawbreakers. (most will agree Adam Jones is, but not all blacks are.)

Others intrepret Imus’ remarks just as he explained them- a high profile black guy is picked on because he is black.

Was the response to “what color” racist, or just PC? Guest host could have responded “why do you ask?” or he could have said “black”. When Imus asked color, why did he respond with Jones’ ancestry? If Imus had asked about the color of alleged steroids user Roger Clemens, would the guest host have responded “British-American?” [I’m guessing Roger’s ancestry]

What about Imus? Newscasters agree he didn’t say anything racist this time, but that one interpretation of his remarks would seem to indicate he meant something racist. I guess I wonder if someone doesn’t specifically say something racist but it is interpreted as such anyway, is the interpretation correct, or is the interpreter on a witch hunt, or is no interpretation correct? Could it be the speaker himself deliberately made it ambiguous to stir up ratings?

What about Imus’ response, if he really meant Jones was picked on because he’s black. Is that racist? Does that imply whites are “out to get” poor Mr. Jones because he is high-profile black? Wouldn’t that be unfairly be lumping all whites together as willing to make up criminal charges against someone only because they are black? As a caucasian myself, I have never made false accusations againt Jones, should I be insulted by that interpretation of Imus’ remark?

Hard for me to figure out how Imus’ brain works, assuming of course his…
