<p>Because US News & World Report rankings are not that precise. The difference between 4-10 is negligible and most schools fluctuate a lot through the years for no discernible reason. UChicago has jumped like 15 spots in the past two years or so for no particular reason…</p>
<p>You’re right, my mistake. I had thought I had heard they had a crazy jump, but I guess it was only 6 spots in one year. Perhaps I was thinking of some other school…in any event, there are still too many fluctuations that it brings into doubt the precise nature of the rankings. I still stand by that.</p>
