I live in Nevada and had planned on going to community college in Oceanside California this semester. Unfortunately I can no longer attend this semester (in California) because the place I had intended to stay is not ready, not until next semester.

Would I be able to take classes at a community college here in Nevada, then transfer schools to a community college in California in the spring semester without any problems?

The answer to your question is simply YES.

Yes, college course credit is typically transferable.

If you are thinking of transferring after both CCs to a UC or CSU, you may want to verify that you are taking the right classes in Nevada, because the Nevada transfer office may not be as familiar with UC/CSU requirements.

It should be fine. If you want to be positive, call the CC in CA that you plan to eventually attend, explain your situation and ask the question. Sometimes you can even get courses pre-approved for transfer.

Wow! Thank you guys for the response. I was worried that I’d be taking the classes here in Nevada for nothing, thinking I’d have to start over and take them again in California. Will definitely be calling to make sure that everything would be A-ok!

Thank you!

There also is nothing wrong with just taking the fall off from college entirely. You could work and save some money for the OOS tuition and fees and your living expenses in California. You also wouldn’t have to worry about whether any of your Nevada coursework would transfer.
