In a pickle..sort of

I find out my SATI scores tommorrow (this is my second real time taking them , the first was a 1330), and I really think I’ll do better. The dilemma is, I want to call the admissions office tomorrow to find out if they’ve reviewed my application yet, however, I believe that this will move my application to the front of the bunch to be read sooner. So, if that happens, and my SAT score is considerably higher and don’t get to them by the time they review my app., it might hinder my chances of admittance ED… which would whomp. I plan on sending the scores quickly (the 2 business day send out) if the are much better. So… does anybody know if calling to check on my application status will move my file to be looked at sooner, and if so, what do you think I shoudl do?

Thanks!

If they say that they accept November SATs, then logically they probably make allowances for receiving the scores later. Also, I’m pretty sure that apps get more than one look before a decision is reached.

So, what you’re saying is that before they send them out deferred or rejected for sure, they give them a look again?

Yeah…I would imagine that there is a preliminary reading and later a final reading of each application or something like that.

I believe that all applications gets read twice. It takes 2 people to reject. Most applications however go to committee where they are discussed then a final decision is made

cool, thanks guys!

w00t, verbal went up 90: SAT 1420 (V740, M680), so, now to send them in express…hoepfulyl they’ll get there in time.

Go werd814!

Congratulations.

if the app says youre taking the sat’s in december, they hold your application until they physically have the sat scores at the office, so dont worry about them reading the app. before they have a chance to get yoru new scores

sry, i meant november

thanks guys :-D,

it ended up being a great day:

I was selected for the New York State Merit Scholarship for having the second highest total of (selected) regents exams…$1500 a year…even thoguh it’s only if you go to a school in NY…oh well, great honour! (heh I like that spelling of honor better)

oh yeah, and I called Dmouth to check my app status, they said complete but that they could not tell me the decision…argh (perhaps they were holig until november SATs).

And what made you think that you would get a decision before the decision date. Your application probably has not even gone to committee yet

Cangel posted that his/her daughter had received a decision about 5 days, or so, ago… and I sent in all my supplemens early than she did and handed my application directly to them on Oct. 23… so I just figured that maybe they would have reviewed mine by now as well.

It’s not like its rolling admissions…I don’t know why Cangel’s daughter got her decision already, but normally are all announced on December 15 or whatever.

Cangel’s daughter has not yet received a decision regarding her acceptance in to Dartmouth. I think you are misreading what she has stated. She wrote about confirming that everything was recieved, how they had her in as an RD candidate by mistake and the scheduling of the interview. Nothing about a final decision

Yeah, I didn’t look at the post when I wrote that. I was just responding to werd.

Does anybody know if that book “A Is for Admission” is still accurate to date? It was written several years ago by a Dartmouth admissions officer… one chapter described what happened inside the admissions office- everything from “one time green A’s” to “going to committee.” Does Dartmouth admissions still work like it described? Just wondering.

I have heard that it doesn’t. In particular, the AI, which the book supposedly makes such a big deal about, is no longer used.
