Not sure where this post belongs.

so i’ve just graduated from engineering and I’ve started at a job. Its not bad by any means. I’ve been working generally from 8:00-4:30 although sometimes a bit more.

I don’t know what to do with my spare time after work. I feel like I’m in a rut. Did anyone experience this after graduation?

It happens. The transition from college student to working professional can be difficult.

The first year I was probably still to much college student. I’d leave work and meet all my buddies at the bar for happy hour, which turned into last call. Then drag my butt outta bed and try and make it through a whole day at work.

Now I use my time better. I go to the gym daily, enjoy cooking at home, and work on my 65 Mustang.

Still, it can be tough. Sometimes you just feel like your life is work, sleep, wake up, work, sleep, ect. One thing that helped me was finding new challenges in life. I was always a great athlete and even played football in college. After graduation I missed the competition. Sure, you can play rec league stuff, but it didn’t appeal to me because there was no reward, no real competition o reason to play. Then my buddy introduced me into triatholons. I’ve done 3 full triatholons, 12 triatholon sprints, and 3 half marathons. I like them because it’s a real competition, and you can at least push yourself to improve your own times. I’ve also been training for MMA, which I’m really enjoying, I just don’t have the time to really devote myself to it properly.

Be creative, remember that you’re working and should have money now. Pursue things you couldn’t as a student due to finances. I went out and bought a nice camera so I could do wildlife photography and plan good weekend trips for camping and taking pictures.

Are you into firearms? A GREAT activity to get into is tactical handgun shooting. NOTHING feels better than leaving the office and unloading a few mags. I’m on a shooting team that meets once a month and it’s been pretty great so far.

Another great thing to keep you busy is buying a home. I have a “hunny-do” list that will keep me busy for the next year. Maybe ook into taking some home improvement courses and take on some projects. Last summer I built a nice deck on my house, and I finished my basement this year.

When someone makes a post as thought out as BIGeastBEAST’s, it’s customary to at least acknowledge them.

sorry for not acknowledging BIGeastBEAST. I’d actually read it but i wanted to see if i could get more post as I quickly logged on before going to bed.

I think I’ll definitely look into getting more hobbies. I’m thinking of starting a few sports like soccer and squash.

Whats on your “hunny do” list?

It’s just a phrase to describe things that your wife wants you to do around the house.

Hunny do this, hunny do that…

Hunny fix the clogged drain, hunny paint the guest bedroom, hunny finish the basement…

Those sort of things.

ohh ok.

i think thats another one of my problems. I don’t have a g/f nor do i know how to get one…I’ve had a lot of trouble with this as seen in my past threads.

Two words: Fight Club.

If anyone asks, you didn’t get the idea from here. This discussion never happened.

Also, Office Space has some ideas (well kind of) for people in your situation.

^ What’s with you and Office Space?

Your last two post made reference to it and neither one of them had much relevancy to the topic.

hey office space must be pretty awesome because I was told to watch it to help with marketing skills or something like that (deca). so don’t hate.

Haha I just watched it last night for the first time (yea I know…a little late) so its kinda on my mind right now. Its pretty awesome though.

And the references do have some relevancy. OP here is talking about being in a rut (same old routine life…wake up, work, sleep, wake up, work, sleep, etc.) and thats pretty much the exact same situation Peter (the main char in the movie) is in.
