IN! (not a UC)

What I don’t understand is why things are falling on my lap?

Why couldn’t the admissions at Colgate have let me in last year in the first time around?

AHHHHHH!!! I got in Colgate as a sophomore transfer. Yay, Colgate finally loves me. But it’s so hard to make this decision because my current school has given me so much and it almost seems stupid to give it up… then again, I’d be an idiot to give up Colgate, my dream school.

Anyone been in this boat? I’m thinking that maybe I’ll just go for a semester and see what it’s like.

Sounds to me like you want to transfer for the wrong reasons, namely, prestige.

Then maybe it is.

You gave it up for your first year, and, from what I gather, had an enjoyable time elsewhere.

I feel that if you have to question whether you should transfer or not is a problem. There should be no question, in my opionin. Trying things for one semester? What about the person who REALLY wants to go for three years?

However I will admit the fact that your title said not a UC was hilarious. hehehe

Seriously, if I wanted to graduate with more prestige, then I’d stay with my current school.

Must keep thinking…

Prestige is not always a wrong reason, especially when considered in the context of graduate school placement.

Did you merely apply on a whim just to Colgate? What was the rational behind your decision to apply as a transfer?

why don’t you go visit the Colgate campus, sit in on a lecture, talk to some ppl that go there…and then make your decision

This is where the buzzer goes off.

Prestige dangles from a big long hook to inveigle the blindly chauvinistic. I’ve seen lots of people who drive BMWs…and struggle to make mortgage payments.

Thank you for the coherent response. Of course, you ripped my explanation out of context, like any decent person would have done in your situation:

Try articulating why Colgate is your dream school. Then write down why your current school is so hard to give up. Compare the lists.

Does one come out ahead?

It’s okay to give up Colgate as your dream school. It’s great if you’ve “found yourself” at your current college – there’s nothing wrong with that. And, well, if you’d get more out of staying then going, then why would you go…?

From what you posted, it sounds to me like you’re lingering in the “what if” of freshman admission decisions and don’t realize how great you have it where you are. The way you wrote your post seemed to me to suggest that you don’t want to go, but you maybe feel you ought to because, well, they admitted you and must see you there.

Do not go for a semester. Visit it, sit in on some classes, but do not try to switch for a semester. You will find yourself very disjointed in terms of your placement in the graduating class, and you won’t get much out of either campus if you keep jumping around.
