In our hands.

If an university states “All materials must be in our hands by December 1st,” how serious are they? If rec letters or scores of a competitive applicant arrive December 5th though the application was submitted online before the deadline, will they be thrown out? I’ve never really heard deadlines stated in this way. It sounds pretty darn strict, though I’m hoping that’s just to scare applicants into getting things in on time. Anyone have input?

Pancaked: I always took it serious. Did you see the following from their site? You have 3 days. Are your recs done? Can they be put in a sealed envelope that you don’t open and you Federal Express to the school? Are you waiting on scores from school or College Board? Do everything in your power to make that deadline. Explain to whomever at your school is writing the recs or sending transcripts how important this is to you. If you are not going to make the deadline with all application materials, call the school. Be polite, professional, and positive. You need them to consider you.

Good luck and keep us informed.
