I rarely bring my SUV down to SoCal since it’s a gas-guzzling (17 MPG) vehicle, but I’m bringing a piece of furniture down to my niece at UC-Irvine, so I was thinking of bringing something big back. Are there any furniture stores with a factory or warehouse that people might go to for discounted shopping? For example, a few years ago I bought my pretty nice mahogany front door from Discount Doors (aka Asian Pacific Products) in Ontario directly, but I paid a friend $150 to bring the door up here to NorCal. All my furniture is either rosewood (downstairs) or natural cherry (upstairs) with some old-fashioned oak bookcases and dressers. If there was a factory-like place that had natural cherry (almost all places I know of are in Vermont or New York unfortunately) or other woods please let me know. On the lookout for a dresser or a bench. Heck, if there’s anything practical that’s cheaper in SoCal than NorCal and/or can only be found in SoCal, let me know.
Consignment shops have that kind of furniture for practically nothing. Find one in an area with older money.
that’s an interesting thought, never thought of that before. I think of consignment shops as places with guns and Rolex watches. Thanks!
If you see a private sale item of interest in the area (listed on the usual web sites), that may be another possibility since you can see it in person and pick it up if you buy.
Also check out estatesales dot net and the zip code where you will be.
I’m a fan of the Long Beach Antique Market. Lots of cool stuff and not overly pricy. By chance, Sunday is the next one…

Laguna Beach and Laguna Hills have good consignment, though I felt the former is market priced (no wow deals.) Not sure how popular rosewood or cherry are. But when I lived there, lots of military retirees downsizing, giving up their international purchases.
I don’t know if it is your style but Design Within Reach has an outlet in Oxnard.
Not sure if it is what you are asking for, but there is a Restoration Hardware Outlet in Lake Forest (still too expensive for me lol) and maybe also in Long Beach, and a Pottery Barn outlet in West Covina. There is a Pottery Barn Outlet by the Grapevine in Tejon off the 5, but I have never stopped.
