Hi I’m currently 20 years old and have just immigrated to America from Pakistan, in the state of Georgia. I just learned that you need to live for 1 year, prior to enrolling in college, in georgia to be considered in-state. I have 3 semesters of college education abroad and would like to continue it in America but tuition is causing a problem for me. I do have permenant residence in America so would be eligible for federal aid. Now here is the problem. My parents are not willing to live in America and have moved back to Pakistan. My elder brother, on the other hand, has accepted a job in georgia and would be claiming me as a dependant. So assuming he files his taxes in georgia after 1 year, will I be eligible for in-state tuition? Also I have good stats and everything, 2050 in SAT. I also have low EFC. Right now I’m trying to transfer as a sophomore to a private college (with hope of a good financial aid package). And want to transfer to georgia tech next year? Is that a good plan in my circumstances? Any advice would be appreciated.
@sohowgoodami Yes, you should be eligible to receive in state tuition once your brother files his taxes at the end of the year. Have you filled out the FAFSA form? If not, here is the link below:

Based on what you’ve written, you should be fine! You have great scores and financial aid will likely give you a full ride. If possible, try contacting Georgia Tech’s admissions office. Here is their number:
(404)-894-4154
Good luck love!
