In-State vs OOS Acceptance Rate

Anyone know what the in-state vs. OOS acceptance rate is for UNCW?

UNCW recently got in big trouble for exceeding the out-of-state cap, so I’m wondering how that will impact admissions especially in these next few years. My guess is that they’re going to have to be overly cautious about who the admit, and that the in-state acceptance rate will go up, while the OOS rate will go down from recent years.

My junior daughter is VERY interested in UNCW, so now I’m hyper-analyzing ;).

I applied as an OOS for the Psychology program for this coming fall. I’m still waiting to hear back…I think decisions are released by mid January. I’m hoping for an acceptance as this is one of my top choices!

The OOS admittance cap for UNCW is 18%, apparently they accepted close to 27% OOS students for fall 2027. My guess is they will try to stay within the 18% for 2024. That doesn’t mean that the acceptance rate for OOS will be only 18%

The cap is on first year enrolled students, not admitted students. OOS students likely have a lower yield than in-state students, so the school does have to admit relatively more OOS students to get to the 18% enrolled number. With that said, overenrolling OOS students for two years in a row is likely to be a costly mistake for UNCW.
