In the box marked "Exceptions"

I was wondering if I will be justified if I put

“Student pays home electric, gas, and internet bill instead of parents, thus explaining the reason why savings for college is low”

+

“Parents are most likely unwilling to pay for students’ college expenses”

Im in a tough predicament. My parents want me to be independent and thus not helping me much. When I asked the question “How much are you willing to contribute to your son’s college education,” they answered “0, we’re a low income family.” I just stood there with my mouth ajar and so I put 0 like they said. What should I do and am i justified in putting the “above” in the “exception” box.

bump pleaseee

any suggestions guys?

You don’t really have to explain why you put down 0 for the parent contribution or why you don’t have much savings. Most students head to college with nothing, so you are far from alone.

What is your EFC and what schools have you applied to?

I have applied to NYU, UCLA, USC, EMerson, Umass AMherst, and Boston University.

My estimated family contribution is that I pay about 1000 while my parents pay nothing.
