In the Home Stretch

D presented her comps project and passed, purchased her cap and gown, and made her senior class donation (although I think there may be a parking ticket she still has to pay  ). Hard to believe four years could pass so quickly!

Congratulations!

Congrats! When we visited last week, I saw the listing of all the kids doing comps. I loved that.

Wait, I remember when you daughter was a sophomore, or maybe even a freshman! (When I joined CC looking for S1, HS class of 2008) Congratulations to her, and to you!

Yes, my son is in this 2010 grad class also. It’s coming up fast. It looks like he even has a JOB to go to. As for the parking tickets, he says they will name a new parking lot for him with all his “donations”.

Here’s a question
do you think graduation will be a “dress up affair” as far as parents go?
(This is our first college grad!)

My first college graduation, too! From what I have heard, dress is pretty casual given the outdoor setting.

After graduation, it looks like D will be working on a reelection campaign in Michigan. Congratulations on your son’s job!

fireflyscout ~ Congrats to your D! Enjoy the day (hoping for nice weather :)) and bask in your pride for her accomplishments. BTW, dress seemed business casual appropriate for 9-12am ceremony on the lawn and picnic lunch on lawn/in tent. Some dresses, some suits, but mostly slacks and shirts for both genders.

Moving out of Burton during the short time frame after the morning festivities was stressful for D. She wanted to visit with her fellow grads and with undergrad friends who were there for a final farewell before her 1800 mile trek home. And she had refused to pack beforehand (denial?). Her grandparents, her aunt/uncle, her brother/SIL helped us pack and remove her stuff. We resorted to tossing a few things from her 3rd floor window! And we weren’t the only parents doing all this work!

Maize&Blue - great to hear from you! I expect D will be in similar denial (or just plain procrastination), but at least her house is more accessible than Burton. Has your D completed her grad program?

ffs ~ She’s in for the long haul, 5 or 6 years. She’s funded for a max of 6 and she thinks she’ll need it!

One of her fellow Carleton grads recommended her as an alumni interviewer and contact for this area. She is excited about visiting a few local high schools in the fall to help spread the word.

Four years went by very quickly! Graduation was wonderful, despite having to be held in the Rec Center due to rainy weather. The class of 2010 attained almost 100% participation in donating to the alumni fund when each gave President Oden a quarter as they received their diploma!

For those curious (and I think this has been discussed before in the Carleton forum), it seemed like 2/3 to 3/4 of the class graduated with honors (3.25 and above).

It makes me sad that I no longer have a reason to visit Carleton and Northfield.
