In Toronto next weekend... what to do?

I’ll be in Toronto from Saturday to Monday this weekend. Anyone have any suggestions on things to do?

I’ve already booked tickets to see the Book of Mormon, and I know to visit the CN tower and the aquarium. (Or not?)

Supposed to be in 40s or 50s, no car access though. Staying in downtown area.

I’d appreciate any suggestions!

This weekend as in now? Or next weekend?

Toronto Islands are fun. Take the ferry across and walk around or rent bikes.

Book advanced tickets to the Aquarium. It is packed on weekends.

Visit the St Lawrence Market and try a treat or two.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is fun if you’re a hockey fan.

We also have a great zoo but you’d need a car to get to it.

Visit Queen St West for some interesting shopping.

Spend an afternoon in The Beach, a beautiful area of town that you can get to via TTC, our transit system. Walk along the boardwalk, have an ice cream cone, or stop at Tims for a coffee and donut.

Visit The Distillery District for galleries, music, theatre, shops, food and drink.

The AGO is very much worth a visit.

There are a few ideas for you! And since this is CC, take a walk around the University of Toronto campus. It’s beautiful!

Enjoy your time in our wonderful city!

We went to the Hockey Hall of Fame because my son is a fan, but I still found it enjoyable. We also had a great time at the Blue Jays game but I think your visit is about a week too early for that.

^^ Yep, the Jays home opener in April 11.

Apply for citizenship? jk.

Thank you for all the great suggestions! I went ahead and booked an aquarium ticket (not this weekend, next) - thanks for the tip!

I’m not a huge hockey fan, so I’ll probably skip the Hockey Hall of Fame but I can imagine why that might be awesome to visit if I knew anything at all about hockey.

Also, @doschicos … maybe.

@doschicos It might be easier to just walk across the border and claim refugee status, as hundreds have done since January 20.

@alwaysamom I’m not too far from the border myself. The thought has crossed my more than once in the past few months.

With its large and diverse immigrant population, Toronto is a great place to find inexpensive ethnic eateries of almost any variety. I haven’t been there for a couple of years so I can’t say what’s au courant, but use your imagination as to what you’d like and explore possibilities on a site like Yelp or TripAdvisor. I’ve rarely been disappointed.

Apart from food, I’d be hard-pressed to identify “must-sees” in Toronto, but one place I’ve enjoyed immensely is the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Some of their special exhibitions are outstanding. I also like their collection of Canadian art, including Inuit and First Nations art and an excellent collection of the Group of Seven, influential landscape artists from the first half of the 20th century who did much to forge Canada’s sense of national identity.

Also worth a visit if the weather’s nice is the campus of the University of Toronto. The older parts of campus especially are a charming, quiet oasis in the heart of the city, and nearby streets are bustling with shops and restaurants.

if you’re willing to take the train or bus, niagara falls is nice to see if you’ve never been!
