inappropriate essay topic?

youre probably gonna laugh at this but

if your last name is something like Wiener or Wang, would it be inappropriate to write about the social struggles and self discovery lessons from having a sexually suggestive name? this year one of the prompts is about identity or something like that.

it would be interesting to read but i dont know if its pushing the limit to refer to sexual urban slang, though it is a name. i am an ivy applicant

At the meeting, when they discuss you, do you really want them saying, “what about that wiener kid?”

i mean i dont really care as long as it gets me admission. i thought it would be memorable but i dont really know.

It all depends on how you write it and if it seems authentic. If it’s something that you’ve dealt with since you knew your own name and it affected every introduction and encounter and you learned something from years of explaining it/spelling it/moving beyond it, then it could be good. If it’s simply that you realized now it could be a great funny hook for an essay, then it won’t be as compelling (it will seem kind of transparent).

I did laugh at it. I’d say no to that–it’s pretty one dimensional.
