hey this is just a really simple question. I am not familiar with “inches” and I want to know how long, in centimeters, 8 inches and 11 inches are respectively.

Thank you.

if you must resort to an internet forum to find the answer to a simple unit conversion question, i have serious doubts about your ability to survive at any ivy league school.

but, being the helpful engineer that i am,

the standard dimensions for north american letter-size paper (not A4 size, which is used everywhere else) is 8.5 by 11 inches, which is 216 by 279 mm, or 21.6 by 27.9 cm. the standard conversion from inches to centimetres is 1 inch = 2.54 centimetres.

(and if you aren’t familiar with the metric system, all hope is lost)

It’s a lot easier to look up the conversion online than to post on this forum and then sit around and wait for an answer. You might want to consider taking courses in efficiency =]

Oh no there’s no need for me to take an efficiency class sarah because it wasn’t like I needed a desperate answer or anything, but thanks for your consideration ^^.
I was just wondering why Penn specified 8.5"x11" paper for the optional thingy. I didn’t know that it was your “standard letter-size paper” because I can’t get any of those in this far away land.
And tenebrousfire, you don’t have to worry about whether I am capable of Ivy or not, but thanks anyway.

sshcho: if you don’t mind me asking, what is this “far away land” that you are referring to?

A place that is smart enough to use the metric system, which is infinitely better than the American system.

But the word “inches” is just so darn cute.

oh man the jokes just write themselves

inches is part of a system that does not make any sense, just random numbers equaling each other. While the metric system is logical. Inches cute? I’m lost.

we may use a stupid ass measuring system…and we may do everything or own
■■■■■■■■ non-standard way…but were still the most powerful nation around…so what now…yea thats what i thought…lol

you do realize that I am on your side right? Anyway, even the strongest nations can use a bit of reform. If you compare the ancient civilations of Rome, Greece, and even the colonial power, Spain, they all fell. A bit of reform can go a long way. And yes, even the metric system can improve the US

Nothing can improve the ALMIGHTY United States of America. We dominate. We conquer. We RULE.

We get oil from other countries. We get electronics from Asia. All we can get ourselves are trees, coal, and a lot of weapons. But I still love the US

COMMUNIST! YOU WiLL BE BURNED FOR TREASON

I’ll get the matches…

to tell you the truth, I do not find that funny.
