My senior year of high school (last year) I recieved a NROTC scholarship to UT-Austin. However, I declined it due to my want to attend a different school, as well as the fact that I would not have passed the medical qualifications to become a naval aviator, which was my desired posistion.
Now, I am applying to transfer to another college, and i’m wondering if I should include this on my resume that i’m sending them. Even though I declined it, the NROTC scholarship process is very selective. So should I include this an an academic achievement?

If it were a normal resume, I would say yes. But seeing that this is a resume you are sending to a school, I’m not sure. It might suggest a pattern of applying for things and then not following through with them.

You most definitely have a valid reason for declining the scholarship, but it may give the school pause that you will actually attend the university if accepted. In short, they might consider you as a flip-flopper.

It also depends on the political culture of the school you are applying to. If it’s to a school that has had a recent controversy regarding ROTC, such as banning its presence on campus, you might want to reconsider. If it’s a highly liberal school, anything affiliated with the Military might be looked upon negatively.

Overall though, I am curious why you are including a resume in your transfer application anyway? I don’t think they are required.

I agree, however it was 100% medical reasons for my decline, and I can easily mention that in a subnote. I do want to continue in the aeronatical field in my career however, even if I cannot fly, so that’s why I think I should include it.
As for the NROTC program at this school is well known and somewhat large, and the school is a top public state school.

Also, i’m including a resume because they have a EC essay, and since I’m chosing to include only two or three important ECs, the adcom office said I could still send a resume.

Alrighty, I would go ahead and include it then.
