Including pictures of your grandchildren in your Holiday cards??? Grandson's mom says no...

“You’re a blessing and a great bonus grandmother/mom!”

Ahh - how about “Bonus D” or “Bonus S” for these special forever kids?

Oregon so great for her to have a “second” mom and sister. My youngest did not nurse well initially - he would fall asleep quickly and could not be woken up. I was lucky enough to have access to a lactation consultant and I fed him using a little syringe and also a supplemental feeding system. I literally had a small tube from a bottle of formula taped to my breast so when he breast fed he was also getting formula. I also used fenugreek and did some pumping. Of course it is a blur now, but he was soon fat and happy. He always was a very sound sleeper (which was not good as a newborn, but was very nice as he got older). If 2D wants to breast feed and can do so, a lactation consultant can really help (I think I only went once or twice so not ridiculously expensive).

I was determined to breast feed as I enjoyed it with my other two, but if it did not work, would not have hesitated to use formula. My kids all got bottles at a few months old, because I went back to work. Once past the initial adjustment, they did not have trouble switching back and forth. This also allows dad to get up on a Friday or Saturday night and feed the baby a bottle so mom can get some good sleep. Good luck to them!!

With my first, I was young and didn’t have any practical knowledge of breastfeeding…no one in my very small family did it, and my mom told me her inverted nipples made it too difficult for me to latch on so she went right to bottle feeding. I surely did not drink enough water…so the first 6 weeks were miserable. DS had severe jaundice to boot, with a hospital stay at 6 days. I remember sitting in bed one morning, after being up all night feeding the baby, and he was wailing. My husband went to the kitchen, brought back a bottle and told me to FEED OUR BABY! I was so emotionally spent, and felt horribly guilty, but I gave him the bottle. It was the first time I’d ever seen that baby relax. He had been in a frantic, hungry state for six long weeks. That’s when I realized that for us, bottle feeding was right. With baby 2, I did a bit better…9 weeks. No way to pump as I was a kindergarten teacher with weird break/lunch times. Baby 3 was my BF success story…7 months. It’s amazing what you learn with each experience. Bottom line…they all turned out fine. I wish I’d known that during the wee hours with baby 1.

sheltz, good for your H!

doschicos, D and I were reading her baby book a few days ago and one of my first entries was that I had to nudge her under the chin to get her to keep eating. I was always around babies and I have a practical personality.
This mom is a sprite and lacks that gritty common sense that got me (and many of us) through.

The baby has some cheeks and thighs now and is pretty, engaging, and sleeping!!!

Again, all of your posts were incredibly helpful.

PS so we have their rescue dog for 2 weeks and this animal does not behave like a dog at all. Just watches you and asks for nothing. Nice in some ways and then…
So I have taught him to eat dog treats (new to him) and to catch them mid air :stuck_out_tongue:
They liked him the way he was…but (I think) he is much happier! (he is anxious and bored)
