Incoming Fall 2014 International student with Urgent questions!

Hi All! Will be incoming to UC Berkeley this term and had a few questions.

I’m currently registered as an MEB major in CNR. However I want to switch to the EEP major in CNR. How realistic is this?

I am also interested in pursuing a chem minor but I’m not that great at math. I’m planning on taking the 16 series as the website showing prerequisites for the chem minor doesn’t say anything about taking the 1 series (which I’ve heard is extremely hard). Would this be a good strategy?

In my first semester I’m taking all the classes which have ‘B’ averages. Could anyone recommend me any easy classes to boost my GPA in the second semester?

I am also planning to take classes in the summer. Is it true that classes in the summer are easier to get an A in?

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing all the freshman

This should not be an issue, as the CNR usually has many spots open in it’s majors. But you should check with your CNR advisor to be sure.

To do a Chem Minor, you would need to take chem 3A-3B, 120A-120B or 130A-130B, plus two upper division chemistry courses. The 130 series would require Math 1A-1B, and the 120 series requires math 53-54. You should take the 1 series if you plan on doing a chem minor, but to be sure, talk with a chemistry advisor on the fourth floor of Latimer Hall.

Art classes are generally easy, but not sure if you like to paint or draw.

This is not always the case. In summer classes, you will have a mix of people, some of whom want to spend their summers getting ahead in coursework, while others, are retaking a course or completing an I grade. In the summer I took Chem 3A, the class average on the exams were the highest the professor had seen in his 25 years at UC Berkeley. But not all classes are like this.

Thanks so much for the answers!!
