Inconsistent relative SAT scores

Strangely, whenever I take mock SATs, my individual scores very wildly fluctuate. As in, my composite score is relatively predictable, but, for example, my math score can range from anywhere as low as a 690 to an 800. Ditto for writing and critical reading.

What’s really strange is that, if I perform very well on a specific section, I almost always do (relatively) poorly on one or both of the other sections, as though the tests have been rigged to be selectively easy on one section and tough on the others. If I score an 800 in math, my CR is a 700. If I score really high on CR and writing, my math score tanks. (this applies to College Board practice tests as well)

Of course, there are exceptions, but typically it seems as though the tests vary wildly in which section they emphasize. Is this just in my head, or has anyone else experienced this?

These are your practice test scores? What book/guide are you using?

Practice tests give you a general idea of your score range, they aren’t always accurate. It also depends what book you are using.

If you can, I would suggest taking the real SAT to get a better idea of your scores.

My SAT score situation was similar. I took the real SAT twice. Each score individually was the same - 2260 - but super-scored it was a 2320. My advice is that it’s probably a good thing you’re consistent and have the potential to do super well in every section. Maybe if you take the SAT twice or three times your superscore will turn out really good due to the fluctuations in the sections on each test.
