Increase in fees 2011-12

The was an article on boston.com, 3/18/11 regarding an increase of 3.9% of tuition, housing, etc. It also mentioned an increase of 8% in financial aid.

Has anyone heard any details. Specifically who would benefit from the increase in aid? Is it only for incoming students and/or only based on need based.

My daughter who will be a sophmore next year got a small merit scholarship as we did not qualify for financial aid. I hate to hope but could we possibly benefit from this increase in aid especially since we have no choice in having to accept the increase in fees. Should I contact financial services?

Merit aid doesn’t change (unless you lose it for gpa reasons). The only way to make it go up is if you get other scholarships while here, such as ones offered by the Honors Program (which are typically for juniors and seniors only).

You could definitely get a change in need-based aid, but don’t expect a huge amount. Usually it only changes for differences in your particular financial situation. To be reconsidered, you should talk to the financial aid office. But keep in mind that you should have filed FAFSA, else they won’t do anything to help.
