As the title describes, I have no idea what I’m doing. My mom went to Penn State specifically because she only applied there and it was nearby. What is a safety school? What is early action admission? What is the difference between binding and non binding? I would really appreciate if someone could take a minute or maybe ten and explain everything.

Can you explain?
As I mentioned I live in California, I took an early exit exam allowing me to take colleges classes due to it being the equivalent to high school diploma. However, I am still interested in applying normally since I am still going into my junior year of high school. I love to compare it to academic suicide and had intially chosen to take a social science major due to their only being a 18 unit requirement major and none of the course had any prerequisites. However, at the same time a part of me did wish to become a doctor and so I took quite of few the biology major requirement. However, around the three month ago a friend of mine mentioned how her sister also a history major was struggling to a get a job.

Safety school: A school where your stats put in the top 75th percentile (not highly selective schools) which gives you a guaranteed acceptance, is affordable (minimal debt) and you are happy to attend. If you live in OC, then your local Cal State or Community college could be a safety school.

Early action vs Early decision
Early action: Non-binding, you receive an early response and do not have to commit until the normal SIR date of May 1.
Early decision: Binding meaning if you are accepted you have to attend that college. Insufficient FA or Medical issues could be reasons to get out of the ED decision. However, you should not apply unless you think the school is affordable and it is ultimately your 1st choice.
