Indian Summer

Don’t always hear this term a lot these days - Indian Summer - but that is indeed what we are enjoying in the Midwest this week - at least in Ohio!

It’s snowing leaves outside, but the temperature is expected to be in the upper 70’s today and 70’s tomorrow - wow, love it!

Thinking I’m going to take a couple hours off this afternoon, head home early and spend the afternoon out in my yard - me, my shorts and comfy tennis shoes and the leaf blower and lawnmower. :)

Anyone else taking advantage of these better than average fall days???

We had a much longer than usual summer, but now have snow in the mountains.
It’s back to rainy & cold.

I keep an eye on OH weather with one (formerly two) kids in school there + you all generally send your weather our way (plus a few degrees). Over 80 here in the mid-Atlantic yesterday and again today. I’ll take a cup of tea and the newspaper out on the back patio shortly.

Maryland has definitely been warm all the way through September, it finally is feeling like fall. Can always count on an Indian Summer though as we will hit at least 75 today. I definitely think our planet is warming up!

it’s been up and down here (upstate NY) all fall and wet. :(

It was my boyfriend’s 22nd birthday here in Michigan. First time he’s ever worn shorts on his birthday. Last year we had flurries. It’s all quite strange here.

We’ve had a frost and some nippy days, but overall, much warmer than usual.

Beautiful day in Chicago! I am working from home today, and just got back from taking my dog for a walk. Sunny, soft breeze, low 70"s, falling leaves … one of those “life is good” days. Windows are open. So lucky that it’s like this on my work from home day; it won’t last, and I am trying to enjoy every beautiful minute!

We’re under a tropical storm watch here in south Florida, with temps in the 80s and the A/C cranked up high! The weatherman did say that we will see some cooler weather next week – I can’t wait for temps in the upper 50s/lower 60s at night :)

Went to a happy hour group meet and sat out on the patio for a couple of hours - great night in Chicagoland.

I have been pretty annoyed that the indian summer had to hit the one week a year I actually have to wear a full suit to work. It is much too hot!

A number of our plants have continued to bloom. The Morning Glories are more in bloom now than ever this year. Some plants, like the spearmint, have sprouted again. Our hostas have mostly not died back yet.

My professor (I’ve had him three or four times now) always builds in a few weather days in to the schedule. He reserves them for really bad winter days, but as it looks like our winter is not going to be much of an issue, he gave us a weather day today to go out and enjoy our selves. No complaints! I’m sitting outside right now and it is absolutely gorgeous.

^^^ What a prof!!!

Here’s an intresting read on the origin of the phrase, “Indian Summer”. Sounds like it could be politically incorrect.

Fwiw, my prof is a Native American (Dakota). Grew up on a rez in Minnesota (which is why he builds in the bad winter weather days lol) and everything. Still uses the term Indian Summer.

Interesting though.

We’re being hit with Santa Ana winds the next few days. Temps from high 70s to 80s. We’ve had maybe 5 days of actual fall weather. I’m actually looking forward to it cooling off a bit so I can wear my boots.

I remember how crabby DH and I got when the Santa Anas blew. I am just back from a couple days in Cape May, NJ. On Tuesday I used the outdoor shower after a long bike ride! Our forecast in PA is for a couple more days of sunny sixties, then it looks like a week in the forties and general gloominess.

I get crabby when the Alberta Clippers blow. When I mentioned Alberta Clippers to my friend in Calgary, Alberta, she told me she’d never heard of it. I told her she gets blamed quite a bit.

Best thing is the tiny kids in Halloween costumes. I just saw a giraffe, an elephant and something very blue.
