<p>I’m not sure you should look at things that way…I too was caught up with getting the Nobel for a long time, but I’ve realised (thanks to Feynman) that it is basically enjoying what I do that is important in life. Working to get the Nobel might get me one, but I’m not sure thats how I would want it.</p>
<p>More than anything else, the nobel is and has been a highly politicised award, and getting or not getting it is really not an indication of the work you have really done.</p>
<p>P.S: It is also very, very difficult to get (obviously)</p>

<p>Yes. I’ve come to realize that awards are not required for anything. It might prove something, or satisfy someone, but they are not of any further use.</p>

<p>P.S: I’ve been hearing a lot about this Jimmy Eat World…is it good? I’ve finally decided to start listening to contemporary bands with an open mind ;)</p>

<p>And 1.2 million is nothing when you can get billions thru other (easier?) means… say, cricket… :p</p>

<p>yeah i agree gandalf, i don’t quite get it either. i hope you keep feeling prolific coz its nice reading ya.</p>
<p>Gandalf- i agree with what you say. For a very long time - until very recently - i myself professed a very similar philosophy, in even greater measures. But ive found out that people generally dont give a ****. You spend a long time explaining it to them and the conversation invariably gets back to the IIT and $$$ - usually at the same time. Ive found that its much easier to simply refer to the nobel - it gets to the point, people dont get a chance to bring up $$$, and its a lot less strain emotionally.</p>
<p>And one more thing. The nobel is NOT about the 1.2m. That’s nice, but its not what its about. Even the medallion isnt very important. What matters is that your work is recognized to be useful. </p>
<p>Of course, nowadays the nobel doesnt mean much since the US Government gets to twist the Swedish Academy’s hands.</p>
