Congrats to those accepted! Be strategic in housing choices for next year at IU due to ongoing mold issue impacting thousands of current freshman and multiple freshman residences. Although some of the impacted buildings will be closed next year for renovation, there is freshman housing inventory of similar vintage and condition in terms of structural, mechanical components, not renovated, etc. Not all residential buildings are receiving mold inspections and testing as of now. Ask current freshman parents who have impacted students for feedback on their experiences, especially if you have any underlying health issues. Critical advice for any school you are considering. Applicants typically do not get to select a specific building in the housing application process. There is a separate app for LLC’s and different notification time for acceptance to those. Also, be careful and read the housing contract at this or any university and be sure you know what they are legally guaranteeing in terms of safe, clean, habitable, mold free housing. Also know what coverage you need to carry in terms of insurance on your personal belongings in any dorm. Due to the housing renovations and unknown timelines for completion, also consider your costs if you will have to move to off campus housing after freshman year and pricing in an area where supply vs demand might influence rent.
