Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Heads up, D was admitted in November and was never “invited”. She didn’t see it until AFTER she submitted GSA. The. It showed in scholarship portal as an option.

Does the invite for SSA come as a separate email? We got the combined acceptance and direct admit email from IU yesterday but it only talks about GSA.

An update - portal status changed back to applicant this morning from application. Now I’m really thinking this is a bad sign. Unless Kelley is reviewing him and we are going to receive both answers at once this week? :woman_shrugging:t3:

Same here. Both my daughter and I believe it to be a bad sign. This is speculation, but I believe that “application” means they put your application aside for secondary or perhaps tertiary review. Then it flips back to “applicant” once they make a decision. I think they will wait on notifying those people until Monday of a decline. Just my opinion and speculation.

So this was our timeline …
10/15 - Applied
11/29 - Admitted on Portal (portal shows Kelley major)
12/1 - Congrats email from “Indiana University Office of Admissions” (which says direct admit to Kelley)
12/21 - Email from “Indiana University Office of Scholarships” asking S24 to complete GSA
12/21 - Registered for DA day, received confirmation email from “bschool” email address
1/4 - Email from “Kelley Undergraduate Program” (“you are offered direct admissions to the Kelley School of Business”; this is the first communication from Kelley other than DA registration confirmation)
1/5 - Email from “Indiana University Scholarships” saying they have identified scholarships based on application profile and S24 needs to complete GSA to see them (I’m assuming this is SSA email)

Based on this, I think SSA email is triggered by the official communication from Kelley. The SSA opportunitites might have existed before then, but S24 hasn’t submitted GSA yet.

If you are a recent DA, I don’t think you will have to wait 5 weeks to hear from Kelley directly, I suspect Kelley just started sending out emails. Obviously, if anyone has different info, please jump in and correct me!

I’m not sure there is ever a SSA email. We had it pop up immediately as option after submitting GSA.

Hi! I see mentions of Direct Admit Days for Kelley. Does anyone know if the other colleges have direct admit days (specifically the School of Public Health - where my child is a direct admit)? We received a card to sign up for Red Carpet Days, but I think a Direct Admit Day might be more beneficial. Second question - are the Red Carpet Days extended versions of a campus tour and info session? Are they worth attending if a campus tour was already done?

Following re red carpet days

D was invited to a February direct admit day for arts and sciences, think the invite came to my email last week. Tough to keep it all straight

For what it’s worth (which I assume is nothing), my kid’s status has been “applicant” since early September when he applied and has never deviated.

Same! Applied 9/18 and has never changed.

You didn’t need an email becasue your child was responsible enough to complete the GSA.
I’m kidding … a little. S24 has already mapped out the weekend days he will use to complete GSA and SSA before the 2/1 deadline. He has been really strict about weekdays are for school and he won’t do any college stuff on a weekday (or a holiday). And with finals right before the break, his schoolwork bled into the weekends. But IU is still his #1, so $ is a good motivator!

I cannot write enough that looking at IU portal and trying to guess what words means is futile as none of the items on the portal are admissions. Yes seeing your plan and program looking direct admit are not bad signs but they do not mean admissions or that it is imminent. What does mean admissions is imminent is Jan 10th today and Jan 15th in 5 days (also they probably won’t admit on Jan 13/14 so most if not all admits/denials will be in the next 3 days.

Most SSA invites (if not all) will see on the scholarship portal page up to 3 options under Application Progress: 1) General Application; 2) IU Bloomington SSA and 3) Other Recommended Opportunities. I don’t know if there’s a specific email but regardless that’s where you fill it out - if SSA is not listed there you have not been yet invited to SSA. It should not just show up after filling out GSA but it’s certainly possible that was a software glitch for some applicants. Also maybe was just a random timing coincidence - doesn’t matter as you have to apply for GSA to apply for SSA anyway.

Applied 9/13, in-state, still waiting, congrats to all who have been accepted!

My son is not a DA (test optional) and was invited to apply for SSA at Kelley.

Did your son receive an email from Kelley admitting him based on his review request perition? Just curious if anyone has been admitted from Kelley based upon a perition. My D24 is also TO and petitioned on 9/20.

Same as you, and nope. No word. Still listed as pre-business. PS there is a whole other thread on 2024 Kelley petition tracking you might want to follow.

Does it seem off that several non D/As get SSA access, while some Kelley DAs have not

It is very unlikely that if you do not see SSA in scholarship portal now and you were admitted in November/December that you will be or have been invited to SSA. The general email was about the “recommended opportunities” that will show up in the scholarship portal based on your general IU profile filters. I’m not 100% sure how this current batch will be considered for SSA invites, but if invites are to come to this batch it will be very quickly with the 2/1 turnaround.

It is not odd or off that non-auto DA Kelley applicants or any other school are being invited to SSA while auto direct admits are not. It is not solely invitation based on GPA/Test. A TO could have amazing GPA, rigor and ECs just as an auto-DA could have good GPA/Test but have marginal rigor or any other trigger.

^^ This is the case for my kid who was invited to apply for SSA and is not a DA to Kelley but has petitioned. 4.3 GPA, high rigor, strong EC/community service, long-term PT job, varsity athlete - just no test scores (decided to apply to IU Kelley late in the game, and it was too late. Other schools of interest didn’t need the test scores). Kelley would be a great choice for him, so we are keeping our fingers crossed! I think it will be pretty difficult to get him to apply for scholarships when he doesn’t know if he will get into Kelley until after the scholarship deadline, and will only attend IU if he’s directly admitted/his petition is approved.
