Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

The thing about some of these majors is, does the field require a Masters? Although I think Finance is a great field of study, a lot of people working in Finance are employed based on their Masters. I only know Wall Street & Tech: There are tons of front office Wall Streeters with Engineering Undergrads and MBAs or Math/Quant/Finance Masters. A lot of value is placed on showing you are smart, hence the Engineers. But regardless of the undergrad major or school, the hiring is based on having a masters, or an industry cert like the CFA, or for some roles a CPA.

Is ASU really that good for supply chain? When do the companies that recruit at ASU come from? West Coast? How was recruitment in general for their business school? DS has admission there for IS and was wondering if it would be worth it over Kelley (pre-business (IS) for now) or Ohio State (IS).

Im no moderator but Id invite you all to have these Kelley discussions on the Kelley thread.

Arkansas for supply chain also in addition to the ones you mentioned. Those kids are getting internship offers left and right thrown at them right now.

Can someone link the Kelly thread?

Good - is in the eye of the beholder.

When I was in my MBA, my first year roomie was from Cornell. His best friend was at Wharton and said it was a joke educationally.

We see schools that are prestigious. Prestige doesn’t equal good. There are prestigious schools, likely great, good and not so good and non prestigious in the same category.

This was late ā€˜90s but ASU and Michigan Syate were the mecca. There were easily 3x the recruiters as students although some likely there for undergrad too. Nationwide and world wide as ASU had a dual program with Thunderbird - which used to be the top International MBA (their degree was called the MIM) - but went broke and is now a part of ASU. Deloitte and other consulting firms were big. I was a marketing major with one supply chain elective and Fed Ex offered me.

So I’d say it’s very very well known. Is the school good ? It was - Syracuse Newhouse, a mecca in the field I was in undergrad, wasn’t good. But its reputation was…and it’s 30+ years later now so that’s not a comment on today.

But historically - Michigan State, ASU, UTK were the top 3 in supply chain. I see MIT there now in third ahead of UTK but I think they weren’t in the category prior.

To answer you - I suspect supply chain is good anywhere. My son’s company - based in Ohio but placing nationwide, hits Mich State. His first roommate ( his job rotates every 6 months) was a MSU supply chain.

Kids today find jobs anywhere and everywhere because of indeed and LinkedIn.

But you can always check student outcomes or ask the schools for them - by job and location - if not posted. The career centers will have - to see where kids end up.

But I’d hypothesize that your list of three would all be great and similar in fields not related to the high end (finance) - where IU will be better.

Of course eating TO major in supply chain is different than IS. See the major change ability at each school.

If your student wants supply chain and to be in the Midwest and I’m sure OSU and IU are great but MSU would be the ā€˜prestige’ in the major. Likely similar outcomes though in all honesty. But that can be researched.

Congratulations! D is waiting on a response from submitting 7th semester grades. Hope they get back to her soon. The waiting is so hard! We are trying to plan for a few last minute visits before she makes her decision.

Question on Kelley…son was deferred from IU and is being asked for an essay. I want him to go to a direct admit program but we didn’t do a Kelley petition (has SAT but not GPA), so seems to me that even if he is able to get into IU during RD there’s no shot at Kelley. Is this accurate?

Also, if you are at IU and doing well in classes, how hard is it to get into Kelley for sophomore yr?

TIA!!!

Can’t answer but I’d assume your assumption on no Kelley is correct and if the student def wants business, don’t forget there are programs with secondary admission (they are pre business) so if you truly want business, find a program with no additional hurdles

But the truth is - you’ll never know (if Kelley is possible) until a decision comes - but if you believe doing the essay gives you the best chance, why wouldn’t you?

Here’s info on transferring once there (at end of first year).

Perhaps you can reach out to one of the contacts here to find out internal acceptance rates ahead of 2nd year.

Good luck

Of course you have a chance!!

But more importantly, you need to be able to study what you want. You went to the wrong college. Have you asked about changing? If not, have you studied the internal transfer protocol?

And while you wait, what is your Plan B? Did you have a #2 lined up and in the major you want?

Back to your question, if they didn’t reject you and in fact, they are asking for more, than of course you have a chance.

Until you are rejected, you are still alive!!!

So keep the faith - but also have Plan B lined up!!!
