Does anyone have a daughter who joined another club/ group, bonded with that group and just didn’t bother with Greek?
My oldest daughter was a Voice major at Jacobs. Greek life wasn’t even on her radar. I have no idea where she would have fit it in between practice, choirs, performances, studying. I know another girl, a non-music major, who joined Singing Hoosiers and found her people there. I live in Indiana, have 2 kids who have gone to IU, and have one considering it, and have to say that until reading this thread I never knew Greek life to be that big of a deal there–only about a quarter go Greek. Some kids go Greek, most don’t. There are sooooo many other organizations to become involved in for those who don’t–over 750. And yes, I am familiar with Greek life. I was in a sorority in college. I have another daughter who is in a sorority at Purdue.
Thank you!
And I’ll add that I have soooooo many friends and family members who went to IU and that percentage is about right–about a quarter of them went Greek. But the overwhelmingly vast majority of them loved their time there, and they all bleed crimson equally–Greek or nonGreek:). Hoosiers make hardcore alumni!
An interesting read–on a positive only one currently active sorority on the list…
Have any students that were deferred from early to RD noticed a change in their portal language?
Yes. The language changed from the deferral notification to a general “your application is complete” message.
This might be a dumb question but I am not very educated on how scholarships work at IU so I figured I would ask.
Is it possible to receive more money after receiving the Dean’s Scholarship? I filled out the General Scholarship Application but haven’t heard anything about any other opportunities.
Nope, no change here.
mine changed too is this a bad sign
For International student what is expected date for RD decision notification
Mine hasn’t changed either
I don’t think so. Nor do I necessarily think that it’s good. I think that it probably represents the closing of the window for deferred candidates to submit the essay and grades and that a decision is imminent. Certainly we are inside of two weeks and I suspect closer than that.
For those that have already paid the enrollment fee, did you/your kid’s application status page in the portal change to say “You do not have any applications at this time”? We just noticed that change this morning.
Called admissions. It’s normal, apparently ![]()
There are rules about sororities not recruiting or making contact with potential new members ahead of rush. For that reason people rushing may avoid that situation but I don’t think it will impact your dds social life in any way!
Actually, I have seen/heard a number of girls leave IU when they do not get into a sorority and they do feel like they have sacrificed their first semester. The girls she’s spoken to have said they have to try not to compare themselves to their friends at other schools that have more “freedom”. I’m not saying this is a reason not to attend a school, but it’s something they need to know going into it.
From the stories I’ve heard from Freshman at IU, it has a major impact on their social life.
Does anyone know if IU is still on target to send more info on final cost, potential merit etc., in March? The initial offer letter mailed out a few months back mentioned this.
I think the latest guidance was that all merit aid announcements would be reported by March 15th? For need-based…I’ve lost track of how far that’s been pushed out.
